ANNE MORAND From p7 of "Durand Family":
"A possible record of the baptism and birth of Dr. John Durand's mother is recorded in Book N:38 entitled 'Baptemes Juillet 1643 jusqu'en Decembre 1648' on page 223, which reads in the records for 1646: 'Anne fille de Henry Moran et de Elizabeth Marie - P: Elie Giraudet, M: Anne Deny. Elle est nee le 3d aout dernier.' In another record for another child, the names of her parents are recorded as 'Henry Morand, marchant, et Elizabeth Marie Laveque.'"
See also the text for husband JEAN (JEHAN) DURAND. ANNE was born at La Rochelle, Charente-Maritime, Poitou-Charentes, France, on 3 August 1646. In an introductory note on p 7 by the author, Samuel R Durand:
"In April 1970 and again in June 1971, I visited La Rochelle, France, and searched through many volumes of the original handwritten records of the Huguenot Church. These records are in the city record office.
"In a volume entitled 'Registre des Baptemes fait au Temple de la Ville Neuve depuis l'Janvier 1660 jusqu'au 13 Juin 1666' on page 195, I found what appears to be a record of the baptism and birth of Dr. John Durand. It reads 'Le Dimanche 18 Janvier 1665 on ete Baptiser par Monsieru De Landcharacts, Jean, fils de Jean Durand et d'Anne Morand, - P. Gustave Gombauld, M: Francois Mater. Il es ne le 26 Decembre dernier.' No other record is to be found between the years 1650 and 1675 in the 'Registres de la Religion Pretendre Reformee de cette ville de La Rochelle' of any other baptism of a child by the name Jean Durand.
"Since this baptismal record gives the names of Jean Durand's father and mother, I searched in earlier volumes for their baptismal records. The 'Registre de Baptismes Novembre 1632 jusque'an Juillet 1638' revealed, on page 78 for 1635, a baptismal record for 'Jehan fils de Jehan Durand et d'Elizabet Arnaud demeurant a St. Martin, Isle de Re, - P: Francis Jehan Antguum, marriane: M. Isobel Durand. Il est ne le 12 du mois aout 1635.' in this same register there is recorded, on page 44, the baptism on June 11, 1634, of another son named Jehan to these same parents who lived in St. Martin, a town on the Isle de Re, a large island just off the coast near La Rochelle, France. It would appear that this first son named Jehan died, and a second son, born August 12, 1635, and also named Jehan, lived and became the father of Dr. John Durand. No other Jean or Jehan Durands were found in the Huguenot church records between 1625 and 1645.

Dr John's will made [son] John guardian of his younger brother EBENEZER, aged 3 at the time (1727]. So John and Sarah (Lum) raised EBENEZER, apparently in Derby. The address changes to Oxford at the birth of John Jr on 16 Oct 1745, when EBENEZER would have just about reached 21 (on 7 Dec 1745). Sarah joins the Oxford church on 5 Dec 1745.
From Durand Family, 10:
"He was a self-educated man and made good progress in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, without an instructor. He was so well informed in business topics that he was often called upon to settle matters that threatened lawsuits. Most of the Wills that were offered for probate in the section of town in which he lived, were written by him.
As a physician, he did not meet with the success that was his father's. His manners were somewhat abrupt, and yet he was a practical, sound, common-sense man who made the most of the meagre opportunities he had for education in early life. He succeeded well in business.
He lived in Oxford, Connecticut, which was formerly a parish in Derby. In 1727, he was on the list of proprietors who purchased Quaker farms which later became part of Oxford."
John was born at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 10 November 1700.5,3,6,7 He bought property at Quaker farms, Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, in 1727.8 He was appointed a guardian at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 4 September 1727.4 He married Sarah Lum at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 5 November 1730.9,6,10 He married Sarah Chatfield at Oxford, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 2 June 1747. "I. Sarah, b. Nov, 24, 1701.
Sarah Lum md. Nov. 5, 1730, John Durand, son of Dr. John and Elizabeth (Bryan) Durand. He lived at Seymour, Conn., and died Mch 8, 1773. Sarah died before 1747. They had three children, and John Durand md. 2ndly, June 2, 1747, Sarah Chatfield and they had seven children."
Apparently, however, according to Durand, John and Sarah had 6 children, not three. In addition, she was mother essentially to EBENEZER DURAND, John's young brother, from 1727, when he was 3, on. Is it a coincidence that she moves her membership from a Derby church to an Oxford church on 5 Dec 1745, almost exactly when EBENEZER turns 21 (on 7 Dec 1745)? EBENEZER would have been 6 when Sarah's first child Elijah was born and 20 when her last, John Jr was born. All of her children, except John Jr, were probably born in Derby; John Jr in Oxford. Sarah was born on 24 November 1701.4,1 She married Dr John Durand [Du2] at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 5 November 1730.4,5,1 Sarah was listed as a member of a church at Oxford, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 5 December 1745.6 Sarah died before 2 June 1747 at Oxford, New Haven, Connecticut, USA. Beach gives 24 Nov 1741; Durand gives 2 Jun 1747. This latter is almost assuredly incorrect because the Derby Vital Records give John's second marriage as 2 Jun 1747 (Durand gives it as 2 Jun 1748 but I have seen no other corroboration of this). Finally, 24 Nov 1741 cannot be correct if she had a son John Jr on 16 Oct 1745 in Oxford and was received into communion in Oxford (coming from Derby) on 5 Dec 1745. Beach and Durand have lots of inconsistencies for John and his children and wives. So she must have died between 5 Dec 1745 and 2 Jun 1747..2

Gov ROBERT TREAT1
M, b. circa 1622, d. 12 July 1710
Gov ROBERT TREAT Founder of Newark NJ, 8th Governor of CT, early settler of Milford CT. An outstanding individual with many articles written about him.
The following is quoted directly from Stiles, 712-3:
"Gov. ROBERT,2 (Richard,1), bp. 25 Feb., 1624-5, in Eng; was tax collector in Weth., 1647 - W.T.V., I, 27; early rem. fm. Weth. to Milford, Ct., and tho' but a young man and not a ch.-member until after his marr. (1649) seems to have gradually come more and more into the notice and respect of the older planters there, until in 1653, he was chosen dep. to the Gen. Ct. It has been asserted, indeed, tho. perhaps not on full authority, that he was the first Town Clerk of Milford, as early as 1640-8. In 1654, he was chosen as the Town's Lieutenant, and this military office was promptly confirmed by the Genl Ct. By 1665, he had become an extensive ld.-holder, and in 1659, was gr. the privilege of sharing in the distrib. of some pub. ld. in behalf of his children - a privilege again extended to him a few yrs. later - and an honor gr. to no one else in the colony. He was prominent in all Milford affairs, and rep. Town as dep. until 1659, with the exception of one hr., and then being elected magistrate, served for 5 yrs. on the Gov.'s Council, and then, tho' re-elected, declined to serve. In 1661, he nominally and officially ordered - in compliance with the mandate of King Charles II - a search to be made in Milford for the regicide judges, Goffe and Whalley - but personally, as trad. asserts, was their friend and well wisher. By this time, he had come to be a man of considerable note, a Captain in the Militia, and a substitute-commissioner of the New Haven Colony, in the matter of the union of that colony with that of Conn. By virtue, not only of his own merits, but by the social influence of his honored father and his brothers and brothers-in-law, as well as by his marr. in 1647, to Jane, only dau. of Edmund Tapp, one of the seven pillars" of the Milford Church, he held a most influential position. In 1663-4, he had opportunity to use his statesmanlike qualities in guiding and harmonizing the two colonies through the troublous period of their contemplated union; and by the ne Col. of Conn., which resulted, he was named among those who should have "magistratical purer" in the towns of the N. Haven jurisdiction. Office in the new commonwealth he might have had, but altho' elected (1655) a dep. to Gen. Ct., and again as an Assistant, he did not act in either capacity. We next find him, in 1666, as one of a commission sent by the inhab. of Milford and other of the old New Haven Colony towns - who disliked the Union which had been forced upon them, to secure and prepare the founding of a new town in the Colony of New Jersey, which then presented a more favorable opportunity for obtaining that peculiar form of mixed ecclesiastical and civil government which was in accord with their wishes. In May, 1666, Robert Treat and 10 others selected a new home at the present Newark; the representatives of Milford and New Haven courteously waiving their rights in the equal distribution of lds. by granting to their Pioneer, Cap. Robert Treat, two acres more than the average amount appropriated to each settler. He also became their first Town Clerk, and rep. them in the Col. Assembly of N. J. fm. 1667-1672. But his old home drew him back to Conn. and in 1672, leaving a son and a married dau. at Newark, he returned to his native place and was immediately called upon by the Gen. Ct. of Conn. to take command of the military forces of N. Haven county in the pending conflict with the Dutch, thus pluacing him second in command of the Conn. forces; and was also chosen an Assistant. Though released by the Peace of 1673, fm. any necessity of taking the field, yet his time was fully occupied by the many offices of colonial, civic and private trusts which came to him, until in 1675, he was commissioned (as Major Treat) to command the Conn. quota in the army raised by the United Colonies for King Philip's War. His admirable conduct in this war and his gallantry at the storming of the Ind. for at Pettyquamscott, R.I., is a matter of history. On his return fm. this campaign, he was chosen to succeed Wm. Leete as Deputy- Gov. of Conn. - an office which he held for 7 yrs; serving, also, during that period, in various public matters pertaining to the general interests of the New England Colonies. In Apl, 1683, Dep.-Gov. Treat was elected Governor, vice Gov. Leete, decd. This brought him into the very front of the crisis caused by the claims of the Royal Gov. Andros. The attempt of the latter to obtain the old charter of the Colony, was for some time parried by the tact and ability of Gov. Treat, and his connivance at the ruse by which it was taken fm. the Council chamber, under the very nose of the Royalist claimant and secreted in the old Wadsworth Oak, is more than hinted at. For 10 yrs. after Andros' disappointment and deposition in 1688, Treat was annually re-elected Governor; and his petition and argument in faovr of returning the old charter, sent to the new Sovereigns William and Mary, was to prudent and weighty that it secured fm. the Crown a decision which established it forever as the corner-stone of the Colony's civil rights. And when Winthrop returned fm. Eng. - and the people of Conn. showed their appreciation of his eminent services, by electing him Governor, they honored Treat, by making him Dep. Gov., and thus at the age of 76, this faithful servant was still retained for 10 yrs. longer, in the public service. At the age of 86, he declined re-election and retired to private life, res. in Milford until his dth. 12 July, 1710, in his 89th yr. As being his native place, Weth. shares with Milford, the place of his residence, the honor of his blameless and useful life. His first wife [JANE TAPP] d. 1703; and he m. at age of 83 (2) 22 Oct., 1705, Elizabeth (wid. of Richard) Bryan, of Milford. She d. 12 July, 1706."

JANE was born in 1628. Says "Ilford, New Haven, Ct". I'm assuming this is a typo. Furthermore, christening occurs in England so this CT entry must simply be wrong..1 She was baptized at Benington, Hertfordshire, England, on 14 February 1628.
