HANNAH WHITE The Frederick Beach letters indicate an uncertainty as to which Hannah White is the correct one for this genealogy: Hannah, daughter of Ebenezer, who was born 1721, or Hannah, daughter of Joseph, who was born 1724. And this uncertainty is stated in the letter of 18 Jan 1899, after the letter of 6 Jan 1899 on which the Ebenezer White line, herein, is based.
The "Durand Family" book states that Hannah, daughter of Ebenezer, is the one. But there are two possible Ebenezer's. See ?MARY MORSE text for details.
But here is another possibility: Manwaring's Digest of Early CT Probate Records 3:131 has the following:
"Page 192, 344.
White, Ebenezer, Hebron. Invt. L108-12-10. Taken by Ebenezer Wilcock and Matthew Ford. Will dated 14 May, 1733.
I, Ebenezer White of Hebron, in the County of Hartford, do make this my last will and testament: I give to Hannah, my wie, all my lands lying and being in the Township of Middlebury, in the County of Plymouth and Province of Massachusetts Bay ... Obadiah, my son ... my two sons, Ebenezer and Joseph ... Rebeckah, my daughter [less than 21] ... Having given the principal part of my estate to my wife, I leave the care of my three youngest daughters, Hannah, Cheanna and Mehetabell, with her, to provide for them as God shall enable her. I appoint Hannah, my wife, only and sole executrix.
Ebenerzer, White, LS.
Witness: Ebenezer Wilcock, Samuel Filer, Matthew Ford.
Court Record, Page 94 -- 3 July, 1733: Will exhibited by the executrix.
Page 27 (Vol. XII) 17 May, 1735: Rebeckah White, age 16 years, and Hannah White, age 14 years, children of Ebenezer White, chose Capt. Hezekiah Gaylord to be their guardian.
Page 41 - 11 March, 1735-6: Account of Adms. accepted."
So this Hannah White would have been born in about 1721 with father Ebenezer White. Hebron is east of Hartford, now in Tolland Co.
Harvey Durand's SCW affidavit has Hannah White born in Marshfield, MA on 13 Mar 1720/21, died in Derby CT on "+ Feb. 1811 ae. 90" married in Middletown CT on 17 March 1754 to Ebenezer. The marriage date and place is wrong for this item, so I doubt the rest of it too.
HANNAH was born at ?Marshfield, MA, on 13 March 1721.4,3 She married EBENEZER DURAND [Du11] at Congregational Church, New Milford, Litchfield, Connecticut, USA, on 17 December 1754. The Durand Family gives New Milford as the place, but the vital record of the event I obtained is from Derby CT. Nevertheless, the church record is from New Milford. Note that this marriage is "just in time" for the birth of son EBENEZER 24 Feb 1755. Harvey Durand gives the marriage as 17 Mar 1754, Middletown, CT which has the advantage of plenty of time for the EBENEZER pregnancy but unfortunately disagrees with the marriage records in both place and time..5,6,7,8,9,10,3 HANNAH died in February 1811 at ?Derby, CT, at age 89.5,3

EBENEZER WHITE1,2
M, b. 21 December 1709, d. 11 September 1779
EBENEZER WHITE The Frederick Beach letters indicate an uncertainty as to which Hannah White is the correct one for this genealogy: Hannah b 1721, daughter of Ebenezer (of Marshfield), or Hannah b 1724, daughter of Joseph. And this uncertainty is stated in the letter of 18 Jan 1899. Or even a third possiblity, Hannah dau of Rev Ebenezer and Mary White (of Danbury), where Mary is b 1721. See ?MARY MORSE text for details.
If he is Rev Ebenezer then we know this about him from "Pastor Robbins Sermon", in "Barnum - The history of Danbury", http://members.aol.com/MoonPie001/Robbinsindex.html:
"... the church and people [of Danbury CT], in great harmony, invited Mr. Ebenezer White to settle with them in the ministry. He was accordingly ordained March 10, 1736.
...
About the year 1762 religious controversy began in this town, and was carried to a great extent for many years.
...
At the time above mentioned, Mr. White having altered his sentiments and preaching in several particulars, some uneasiness arose among his people. The efforts of several ecclesiastical councils to heal the division proving ineffectual, it finally issued the dismission of Mr. White from his pastoral charge, March 1764. A major part of the members of Mr. White's church joined with him in denying the jurisdiction of ecclesiastical councils and renouncing the form of church government established the churches of this State. ... Soon after this Mr. White and his adherents separated from the church and society and formed a separate church; they were general denominated 'Mr. White's adherents.' In October 1770, a number of inhabitants of the town individually named in the act, principally those who composed this separate church, were incorporated a society by the name of 'New Danbury.' Prior to this they built a good meeting-house, its dimensions about fifty feet by forty, in the year 1768, which was consumed in the general conflagration of the town. In the same year Mr. Ebenezer Russell White was ordained a colleague with his father over that church.
...
The society of New Danbury continued regularly, though constantly diminishing, till July, 1774, when the Rev Ebenezer Russell White, with a number of the society, united with the Sandemanians. Public worship was maintained irregularly afterwards for two or three years, till the society finally expired.
...
The Rev. Ebenezer White died Sept 11, 1779 aged seventy."
I take this to refer to Ebenezer White, and to his son Ebenezer Russell White, one of which might be our EBENEZER WHITE.
According to the Roderic Davis website, Rev EBENEZER WHITE and MARY MOSS had an unnamed female child as firstborn, ie about 1737, which is about right for our HANNAH.
All we can really say is that his name is EBENEZER. That he is Rev EBENEZER described above is still in doubt. EBENEZER was born at Weymouth, Norfolk, Massachusetts, USA, on 21 December 1709.3,4 He married ?MARY MORSE (MOSS) at Danbury, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA, on 20 October 1736.5,4 EBENEZER died on 11 September 1779 at Danbury, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA, at age 69.4

He eked out his scanty living by preparing students for college, among whom was Rev. Polly Stow1,2,3,4,5
F, b. circa 1775
Father | (?) Stow |
Polly Stow See text for husband. She is probably Polly Stow who m1 Mr Williams. Evidence is Ahira Brooks' affidavit in EBENEZER DURAND's pension file where he claims that his wife and Polly Stow were sisters and that Polly Stow was her maiden name. In Polly's own affidavit she claims to have been Polly Williams at her marriage to EBENEZER but does NOT say it was her maiden name, despite claims to that effect elsewhere in the file.
There is an 1810 CT Census for Waterbury, New Haven Co that has this:
Polly Williams 2M 0-10 1F 26-44.
Helen Ullmans' researches:
"A Polly Stow, daughter of Daniel, was born at Torrington, Connecticut, on 7 September 1775 [7]. There were several Stow families in Middletown, Connecticut, where Ebenezer tried to obtain pension funds from a bank in 1823."
("7. Rev. Samuel Orcutt, History of Torrington, Connecticut (Albany: J. Munsell, 1878), 767. Other children were Prudence, b. 17 Sep. 1769; Daniel b. 10 Aug. 1771; and William, b. 9 June 1773. A Mary Stow married Daniel Williams in Massachusetts on 11 March 1804 (IGI), but this appears in Vital Records of Marlborough, Massachusetts ..., 328. The same volume shows that Daniel died on 25 Oct. 1810 age 35 (p. 402)."). Polly was born circa 1775.1,6 She married (?) Williams before 1810.7,2 She married Pvt EBENEZER DURAND [Du48] at Harriet Bacon's father's house, Barkhamsted, Litchfield, Connecticut, USA, on 1 June 1810. Taken together with census records for Sturgis, MI, it seems that the marriage must have taken palce in Ahira's house in Barkamsted." Helen Schatvet Ullman's draft re EBENEZER..8,1,9 Polly was listed as the head of a family on the in 1810 Census at ?Waterbury, CT. I am not positive this is our Polly Stow Williams.4,10 She resided at Litchfield, Connecticut, USA, on 31 January 1826.11 Polly was listed as the head of a family on the in 1830 Census at Barkhamsted, Litchfield, Connecticut, USA.12 She moved circa 1834 at Branch, Michigan, USA.13 She moved circa 1852 at Iowa, USA.14 Polly applied for a military pension at Benton, Iowa, USA, on 20 April 1854.1 Polly died at Benton, Iowa, USA. Durand Family actually gives Benton IA as deathplace, but I believe this should be Benton Co to be consistent. NB Benton IA is not in Benton Co IA..15
