James Riggs [Ri12] RIGGS Surname Study, by Geoff Riggs:
"12. JAMES RIGGS (EDWARD, EDWARD, EDWARD)
Born about 1664. Although Wallace says that James was born in Newark, Essex Co. NJ, his parents did not move there until 1667, and so he was probably born in Derby, New Haven Co. CT.
Wallace could find no record of James's marriage nor the name of his wife, but states that Mr Conger locates him at Elizabeth, Union Co. NJ in 1739.
Recent researchers [S33],[S52] state that his wife's name was Elizabeth (surname unknown) but, since they state that James and Elizabeth moved to Maryland and name other children of theirs as having been born there from 1704 onwards, I believe there were two separate JAMES RIGGS who have been confused with each other.
Wallace states that Mr Conger "gives him, traditionally, the following children":
35. JOHN RIGGS
Born about 1710.
36. ZOPHAR RIGGS
Born about 1712.
37. PRUDENCE RIGGS
Born about 1715, married DANIEL OSBORN.
38. EUNICE RIGGS
Born about 1717, married Mr. LAMBERT.
39. ELIZABETH RIGGS
Born about 1719, married BETHUEL PIERSON.'
James was born at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, circa 1664.3,2

I am conjecturing (only) that this fits the LDS Riggs information thus:

There is a tradition that he was an active member of the first church organization at Orange, N.J., which was then called "The Mountain Society." He died and was buried there September 11, 1744. Mr. Conger, by tradition, gives him six sons, but from one of his descendants we have a list embracing seven sons and four daughters. Samuel Riggs [Ri20][Wa15] RIGGS Surname Study, by Geoff Riggs:
"20. SAMUEL RIGGS (EDWARD, EDWARD, EDWARD)
Born about 1681 "near" Newark, Essex Co. NJ.
Whilst Wallace could find no subsequent record of Samuel, he states that by tradition Samuel lived near a locality known as Bottle Hill, in Morris Co. NJ and had 4 sons, two of whom being named Edward and Timothy. A recent researcher [S33] states that Samuel married a Kesiah BALDWIN, who was born circa 1690, and names a daughter as well as the 4 sons.
Another recent researcher [S51] quotes from "Colonial Families of The Americas, Lineage Number 8: Riggs of Massachusetts" which apparently says that Edward with others established in Morris Co. NJ a plantation known as "Bottle Hill" in the vicinity of Basking Ridge and that this property was left to Edward (Samuel's father).
Wallace "fixed upon" Samuel "as the altogether probable father of Timothy that went to North Carolina and left 10 very prolific sons, whose descendants are numerous in the South, in the West, and on the Pacific Coast.". He stated that "Tradition has assigned to this Samuel the following four sons but I will not attempt to approximate their dates". A recent researcher however shows more details[S33]:
62. EDWARD RIGGS
Born 1720 at Hanover, Morris Co, NJ.
An Edward Riggs and his children moved from Morris Co. NJ to Surrey Co. NC in 1765.[S52]

Joseph Riggs [Ri9] RIGGS Surname Study, by Geoff Riggs (2 Jan 2002):
"9. JOSEPH RIGGS (EDWARD, EDWARD)
Joseph Riggs was allegedly born in Milford CT about 1642.
In 1667, Joseph and his brother Edward followed their father Edward from Derby CT to Newark NJ, where they were amongst the original settlers - he and his brother Edward were the first to obtain grants of outside lands from the town authorities. He was still single and living with his parents, and therefore no home lot was assigned to him. But, after his father's death, his mother was contemplating remarriage and in 1671 conveyed to him one half of the home lots originally assigned to Edward and his family.
Soon after, he married HANNAH BROWN [S54] or BROWNE [S3], whose father John had also been a planter at Derby CT with Edward before both families moved to Newark NJ [S3]. Hannah had been baptised on 02MAY1658 [S5].
Wallace states that the advantages of an early education showed in Joseph's management of the busimess affairs of the new plantation at Newark NJ. He also states that Joseph was made commander of the local military organisation, and was involved in the moral and religious welfare of the community, being on record as having put "the floor in the Meeting House". In reality, the Town Meeting of 02JLY1670 records that:
"Item--the Town Agreed with Thos. Johnson About his Floaring Half the Meeting House for Four Pounds, of Good Chestnut or Oak, of 2 Inches and a Half Plank, and they are to find and do all, to Edge and Lay down the floar on Seven Good Sleepers; and in like Manner they Have Bargained with Jno. Brown, Mr. Burwell, Jno. Baldwin, and Jos. Riggs to do the other Half."[S69]
Torrey [S45] quotes the year of his death as 1689. His Will dated January 1689 names his four children and made provision for them when they reached maturity.[S3] A recent researcher [S51] states that, according to the descendants of Edward Ball, the will is dated 1JAN1689N, was proved 27NOV1689, and the probate "in solemn form" is dated 16MAY1711 and is filed at Trenton NJ. After his death, his widow re-married to an AARON THOMPSON. [S45][S3]
Wallace documents the known children of JOSEPH and HANNAH as follows [S3], presumably all being born in Newark, Essex Co. NJ" [see children for details].
Joseph was born at Milford, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, circa 1642.1,2 He resided at Newark, Essex, New Jersey, USA, on 2 January 1671.2 He married Hannah Brown at Newark, Essex, New Jersey, USA, circa 1676.1,2 He bought property at Newark, Essex, New Jersey, USA, on 27 September 1680.3 He made a will on 1 January 1689.4,5 Joseph died after 1 January 1689.1 Joseph's will was probated on 27 November 1689.1,6 Joseph's will was probated at Trenton, Mercer, New Jersey, USA, on 16 May 1711.1,6

EDWARD RIGGS [Ri1][Wa1] I entered the Riggs genealogy, as shown here, years ago. I have since over the course of 8 or more years done a major Riggs reasearch project, resulting in 8 volumes of scholarly details, and 10 papers. Most of this is published online at alvyray.com/Riggs/ or in learned journals and should be consulted for accuracy rather than the contents of this tree, which reflects the problematic state of the Riggs genealogical world before a thorough reworking was invoked which detected many flaws in the "given" genealogy (mostly due to Wallace).
The numbers, such as [Ri1], following a Riggs is the index number used in the RIGGS SURNAME website, maintained by Geoff Riggs. The numbers [Wa1], for example, are the indexes used by the 1901 genealogy of the Riggs family by Wallace, which has been found to be highly flawed, but unfortunately used by generations as a foundation of their Riggs genealogies. I made the same mistake at first and this tree is the result. Please see my Riggs website for the latest and best details.

"John Twitchel 1st's grandmother was Mary Riggs Twitchel, whoe Riggs relatives, it is said, had been living in Derby "for a number of years" prior to 1689. She was a daughter of Edward Riggs who came from England to Boston, Mass. in 1633. His son, Sergt Edward Riggs settled in Milford in 1640, and was one of the men who settled Paugaset, now Derby. So the Riggs family had been in Derby from the very start. Mary Riggs Twitchel was 69 years old in 1689 when John Twitchel married, and she may have suggested to him that he come to Derby to live."
[erratum, 318: "Mary Riggs Twitchell was 78 years old in 1698"] She married (?) Twitchell.2 Mary was born at England circa 1620.2 She was baptized at Nazeing Parish, Essex, England, on 1 July 1632. Religion: (an unknown value).3 She resided at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, in 1698.2

Statia Webb Sr1
M, b. 12 February 1797, d. May 1838
Father | William Henry Webb |
Statia Webb Sr Lanza Webb notes:
"The Will of Statia Webb, Sr.
In the name of God Amen, I Statia Webb, of Lincoln County and State of Missouri, of sound and dispensing mind and in my usual health although weak in body and not long expecting to live, desirous of disposing of the estate with which God has blest me according to my will do hereby declare and publish this as my Last will and Testament.
In the first place I resign my body to the dust and my soul to God and my wish is that after my death my body shall be buried in a decent Christian like manner - I dispose of my worldly goods as follows: My just debts are to be paid first out of my personal estate if it shall be sufficient for that purpose - first of which my land stock and every thing that now belongs to me to remain in Sally Webb's hands, my wife, in her natural life and if she wishes to sell the land she can do so and her title shall be good to the same to do as she pleases with the same and after her natural death the residue is to be equally divided amongst all of my children.
I nominate George Clare* as the Executor of this my Last will and Testament - In Testimony whereof is here to subscribe my name this March the twenty-second day AD 1838. Signed, Statia Webb
On the 15th day of August, 1838, the foregoing last will and testament of Statia Webb, deceased, was produced before the county court in open court for probate.
*[George Clare (Clair) was the husband of Adeline Shaw - refer to Guilford Webb's letter - Adeline was the niece of Sally Webb - she was the daughter of Jimmy and Polly Webb Shaw]." Statia was born at Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky, USA, on 12 February 1797. "In the 1880 Grayson Co. [TX] census Statia Jr. Stated that both his parents were born in Kentucky as does William H. Webb." From Lanza Webb notes.
Some sources (none primary) give his birth as 4 Apr 1797 NC.
The given date comes from Agnew, Bebout, etc. World Tree Project, but it is suspiciously the same as Sarah Bell Riggs's birthday and place..2,3,1,4 He married Sarah Bell Riggs at Covington, Kenton, Kentucky, USA, in 1815.5,2 He made a will at Lincoln, Missouri, USA, on 22 March 1838.1 Statia died in May 1838 at Cuivre River, Troy, Lincoln, Missouri, USA, at age 41. Alta Marie Palmer says Culvre River, but I think it should be Cuivre. Agnew, Bebout etc gives "Mar 1838 in Sulphur Lick, Lincoln, Missouri" but Mar is probably will date.3,6 His body was interred at Millwood Township, Lincoln, Missouri, USA, at Sulphur Lick Cemetery.3,7 Statia's will was probated at Lincoln, Missouri, USA, on 15 August 1838.1

She said the grave has a handmade marker and is separated from the other graves by being outlined with white field stones, on each side of Statia are two other markers that say Clayton and Baxter and are also marked and outlined with the same type of field stones. The historian said she believes the stones came from the Webb farm, for it was a custom to do this."
