Wallace's RIGGS, 16:

"Sarah Riggs Humphreys5 (daughter of Capt. John Riggs,4 Samuel, 3 Edward, 3 Edward 1) was born at Derby, Conn., December 17, 1710. She first married John Bowers, who died without issue, and she married as her second husband Rev. Daniel Humphreys, who graduated at Yale College, 1732, and was ordained as a minister of the gospel at Derby 1733, where for more than half a century he was pastor of the same organization. From the records he left of his ministry, he was a faithful and earnest preacher of the gospel. He was a fine scholar, a great reader, and loved the study of theology. She married her first husband, Mr. Bowers, November 22, 1732; he died January 26, 1738, and their two children died that year. As Sarah Humphreys represents the fifth generation of the house of Riggs in this country, her distinguished son, Gen. David Humphreys of revolutionary fame, represents the sixth. She was remarkably intelligent and endowed with many graces of person as well as of mind, and these qualities were transmitted to her descendants. For many years she was always known and spoken of as "Lady Humphreys." Thus during a long lifetime she was widely known and honored by all classes as the most exemplary and noble of all ministers' wives. Rev. David [sic Daniel] died 1787, and two months afterward she was placed by his side. Their children were

Daniel Humphreys, b. May 13, 1740.
John Humphreys, b. January 3, 1744, m. Rachel Durand.
Elijah Humphreys, b. April 27, 1746, m. Anna Mansfield.
Sarah Humphreys, b. July 20, 1748, m. Rev. S. Mills.
Gen. David Humphreys, b. July 10, 1752, m., but left no issue."      Deacon Ebenezer Riggs [Ri71] Except for Esther (established by the Derby Records), all the children below are assigned to Ebenezer and Rachel because of the LDS family group sheet evidence for that family. This sheet contains several errors - eg, birth and death dates and places for Ebenezer. However, many of the individuals are supported by primary sources, particularly Sharpe's History of Oxford. So I use the LDS evidence as a tentative family structure off which to hang several individuals I know to have existed in its neighborhood at the time. Ebenezer was born at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 15 April 1707. LDS evidence gives 15 Apr 1703, "Off, Waterburyd, New Haven, Connecticut".4,5 He married Rachel Peck in 1723. LDS evidence gives 5 Jul 1733, "Off, Waterburyd, New Haven, Connecticut".6 Ebenezer died on 4 June 1785 at Oxford, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, at age 78. LDS evidence gives 27 Jun 1780/1785, Derby, CT.7
