Capt John Riggs Esq [Ri27][RBa23]1,2,3,4

Father | Samuel Riggs [Ri8] b. c 1640, d. 1738 |

Capt John Riggs Esq [Ri27][RBa23] Tombstone reading in Old Colonial Cemetery, Derby CT:
"RIGGS: Here lies the body of John RIGGS Esq. who departed this life 24 Sept 1755 in the 80th year of his age.
...
RIGGS: In memory of Elizabeth wife of John RIGGS died 17 Apr 1747, 71 years"
However, there is a problem: RIGGS Surname Study evidence quotes a different marriage (in addition to the one implied above) of John to Marah/Mary Slee, widow of Daniel Sterling, at Lyme CT 18 May 1699.
Also:
"Wallace states that "the following children are credited to him on the town records" "
Naugatuck, 12:
"After the death of the illustrious Colonal Johnson [1726], Captain Joseph Hull, Sr., John Riggs, father of Lady Humphreys, and Samuel Bassett of Great Hill were for many years the most influential citizens in town ..."
Wallace, p 7:
"John Riggs4 (son of Samuel,3 Edward, 2 Edward1) was born April 1, 1676, at Derby, Conn. On February 23, 1699, he married Elizabeth Tomlinson, of Derby. He held the military rank of captain, and was a justice of the peace for many years. He was wealthy, and his name in connection with public affairs is constantly borne upon the local records. He accumulated much property and died September 24, 1753, in the eightieth year of his age. The following children are credited to him on the town records.
..."
Baldwin, p 88:
"23. John, of Derby, Justice of the Peace and Representative often, and Captain - a very leading man. He was dead before 1755, leaving ch.: Samuel; Joseph; Sarah, m. Daniel Humphrey; Elizabeth, m. Daniel Holbrook; Eunice, m. John Wooster, then all living in Derby. John Wooster d. Aug. 2, 1804, aged 84 years, and his w. Eunice, Nov. 17, 1799, aged 74 years." John was born at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 1 April 1676. 1 Apr 1676 from RIGGS website.
Old Colonial Cemetery listing: d 24 Sep 1755 in 80th year. NB, 1 Apr 1676 to 1 Apr 1677 is his first year..., 1 Apr 1755 to 1 Apr 1756 is his 80th year, 1 Apr 1756 to 1 Apr 1757 is his 81st year. This reasoning gives 1676 as his birth year.
Derby Records gives Apr 1676..5,1,2,6,7 He was baptized at Milford, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 29 April 1676. Religion: (an unknown value).8 He married Elizabeth Tomlinson at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 23 February 1700.8,1,9 He resided at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, in 1726.10 John died on 24 September 1755 at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, at age 79.1,8,9 His body was interred at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, at Colonial Cemetery.1
