     Daniel was born at Germany.2 He p 247: "CLARE. - There were six brothers and two sisters named Clare, who came from Germany with their parents and settled on James river in Virginia. The names of the brothers were - Thomas, Allen, George, Jacob, Daniel, and Frank. George and Jacob married and remained in Virginia. Thomas, Allen, Frank and Daniel settled in Pulaski Co., Ky., and Thomas married and died there. Allen married Leah Foley, and settled in Lincoln Co., Mo., in 1834. Frank and Daniel built a tan yard at Summerset, in Pulaski county, and carried it on until the war of 1812 began, when they both enlisted in the army, and were together at the battle of the Thames, where Frank was killed. After the war Daniel married Jane Hansford, of Virginia, and settled in Lincoln Co., Mo., in 1830. He had six children at the time, whose names were - Frank, Jacob, Thomas, John, William, and Margaret. The rest of the children were born in Missouri, and their names were - Susan, Walden, Fountain S., and Horatio. ... Walden married Nancy Gilleland, and settled in Montgomery county." He married Jane Hansford after 1812.3 He moved in 1830 at Lincoln, Missouri, USA.4

     John Hartwell Sheppard This is apparently the Sheppard from which the SHEPPARD BAKER branch derives the name, he being the father of SHEPPARD BAKER's Aunt Polly Johnson. The name Sheppard has been passed down generation by generation since.

"John Sheppard was born 16 June 1765 in Anson County, NC where he grew up. He married Nancy Wicker born 1773 in NC, the daughter of Robert H. Wicker & Hannah K. Holley. After their marriage they moved to Washington County, Georgia where they lived until around 1805 at which time they moved on to Missouri and settled in Cape Giradeau County near Jackson, Missouri. John Sheppard died there on November 22, 1836 and his wife, Nancy died about seven years later on August 5, 1843. They were both buried in the Old Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery near Jackson, Mo. of which they were both members. Markers can be found there marking their final resting place. They were the parents of 15 children [listed]." John was born at Anson, North Carolina, USA, on 16 June 1765.2,1 He moved circa 1792 at Washington, Georgia, USA.1 He married Nancy Wicker circa 1792.
