"William was the fourth of twelve children born to Robert and Elizabeth (Holton) Walton, originally from Virginia. They were early settlers of Bracken County, Kentucky and moved to Boone County, Kentucky in 1827, where he bought 500 acres of land. Robert was sheriff of Boone and Bracken Counties. William was brought up on the farm and received a common-school education. He settled onto 116 acres of land. He and both his wives were members of the Christian Church. Politically he was a Democrat."
