Sarah Blomley1
F, d. 25 April 1857

Sarah was born. She The evidence points to Sarah being a Blomley, married to Thomas Smith, with several children, including at least Alice and Sarah Ann.
Letter of 3 May 1857: "I have to state to you that last Wednesday I attended Sarah Smith's funeral. your sister." Since Henry Hargreaves had no sister Sarah, this must mean his sister-in-law, making her a Blomley married to Smith. Also in this letter: "Thomas Smith's Mother also was at the funeral she looks very cant at her age [cant is old British dialect for merry, or hearty]. Thomas has 6 children and I think as nice a family as ever you saw. they are so staid. Alice is very motherly and I think will look after the children." Assuming that Thomas is Sarah's husband Smith, then they had six children. I guess from the wording here that Alice is probably the oldest child, or oldest girl, who will take on the mothering duties with Sarah's death.
Now the earlier letter of 24 Jun 1852 makes sense: "Thomas Smith seems to be doing very well. Alice & Sarah Ann are Weavers at Drydales' Mill. I thought Sarah herself did not look so well in person as to enjoy very good health, but folks do lose their healthy appearance as they advance in age." Indeed, she is dead by 3 May 1857. Since we believe Alice is a daughter, this suggests that Sarah Ann is too.
Also, the letter of 24 Jun 1854 says, "Thomas Smith is working at Wm Hudson's Machine shop, Burnley. The family are all well but Sarah ages fast". No doubt, this refers to his wife, given the above. She married Thomas Smith. Sarah died on 25 April 1857 at Burnley, Lancashire, England.2 Her body was interred on 29 April 1857 at Padiham, Lancashire, England, at Cheapside Church Yard nr Burnley.3

"I have to state to you that last Wednesday I attended Sarah Smith's funeral. your sister." I assume this means sister-in-law since Henry (and James) had no sister Sarah. I deduce the funeral date of April 29, 1857 from this entry.
"[cont. from the above quote] She died very suddenly of a disease called acute perritonitis which I think was caused by strangulated hernia. that is to rupture in its worst form. she had gone to see some friends at Lower house and had only got there about half an hour when she was seized. I understand she suffered a great deal but her sickness was short and she died in about two days from the commencement at the same place but she was brought home to Burnley on the Saturday in her coffin." So this makes her death date on or slightly before Saturday, April 25, 1857.
I do not know where "Lower house" is but must be near Burnley somewhere.
