     Lois was born. She was baptized at Hanover Presbyterian Church, Hanover, Morris, New Jersey, USA, on 12 August 1750. Religion: (an unknown value).¹

     Abigail was born on 25 June 1757.¹ She married Aaron Riggs [Wa55] after June 1780. Because he is a single man in the NJ Rateables then. Harry Moore says "bef 1783" (birth of Susannah Wood Riggs).^2,3 Abigail died on 11 May 1828 at age 70.¹

     Polly was born on 29 March 1785.¹ She was baptized at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 7 December 1794. Religion: (an unknown value).²

     Abby was born on 23 September 1780.¹ She was baptized at Huntington Congregational Church, Shelton, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA, on 11 February 1781. Religion: (an unknown value).²

     Sally was born on 20 May 1783.¹ She was baptized at Huntington Congregational Church, Shelton, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA, on 29 June 1783. Religion: (an unknown value).²

     Sarah Durand [Du52] She is listed as 52 on p 24 of Durand Family, but 52c on p 44. She is perhaps the other child (Hatty? Patty?) baptized with Ira Durand on 4 Mar 1784 (qv).

Durand, 44:

"They moved from Fairhaven, Vt. to Batavia, N.Y., about 1824." and had several children. She married John Gorham.¹ Sarah was born at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 9 February 1781.¹ Sarah died in 1837 at Pennsylvania, USA.¹

     John was born. He married Sarah Durand [Du52].¹

     Martha was born at Fair Haven, Rutland, Vermont, USA, on 31 July 1784.¹

     Amy was born at Fair Haven, Rutland, Vermont, USA, on 15 November 1786.¹

     Nancy was born at Fair Haven, Rutland, Vermont, USA, on 11 January 1789.¹

     Rhoda was born at Fair Haven, Rutland, Vermont, USA, on 16 August 1791.¹

     Joseph was born. He married Elizabeth Preston.¹

     Elizabeth was born. She married Joseph Alsop.¹

     William was born. He married Mary (?).¹

     Mary was born. She married William Preston.¹

     Abigail was born. As of 1745,her married name was Riggs.^1,2,3 She married Joseph Riggs [Ri55] in 1745.^2,1,3 Abigail _ was living on 31 January 1798 at Newark, Essex, New Jersey, USA; will of husband Joseph Riggs.³

     Rhoda was born. She married Daniel Riggs [Ri56] after 24 September 1776.¹

     Sarah Thompson First Settlers, p 414:

Sarah [Thompson, daughter of John] married 1st, Mr. Van Sickle, of Long Hill, and had a daughter, Elizabeth, who married Jacob Britton, son of William. ... Sarah married 2d. Mr. Rutan, who had a son, Peter, who lived in Albany, N. Y. She married 3d, James Enos, or Innes, of Long Hill."

Compare this to p 382:

"NOTE. - Sarah Thompson, daughter of Thomas Thompson [I believe this is an error for John Thompson, Thomas is her brother], married, 1st, Mr. Van Sickle, of Long Hill, and had a daughter, Elizabeth, who married Jacob Britton, son of William .... She married, 2d, Mr. Rutan, who had a son, Peter, who lived in Albany, N. Y; 3d, James Enos, or Innes, of Long Hill."

Littell offers the theory that the Elizabeth Van Sickle described in these two passages is the daughter of Samuel Van Sickle, p 382. But the following shows that he was Abraham Van Sickle instead.

NJ Calendar of Wills, Vol 3, 1751-1760 has this:

"yeoman; will of. Wife, Sarah. Only child, Elisabeth. Real and personal estate. Executors--the wife and "Ensyn" Thomas Baker, of the Congregation of New Providence in the "Borrough" of Elizabeth. Witnesses--Jonathan Elmer, Piter Rutan, Abraham Rutan, Proved Dec. 10, 1759 [Lib. G, p. 139]"

I have done substantial "piecing together" of clues in First Settlers (pp 55, 57, 382, 414) with facts from the NJ Calendar of Wills to prove, I believe, that (1) Sarah Thompson is indeed the Sarah who married Peter Rutan and (2) Van Sickle was her second husband, not her first as claimed by Littell.

Note that Thomas Baker, who became guardian of her Rutan children, was an executor with her of husband Van Sickle's estate. Note also that Thomas Baker married Hannah Thompson, Sarah's sister.

NJ Calendar of Wills, 1751-1760:

25 Aug 1759, Morris Co., Abraham van Sickle

"Int. Inventory, [pound]333.2.10., incl. 62 bush, of corn in the ear; 17 eo. of buckwheat; bonds, cash and notes, [pounds]150.4.7, made by William Broadwell, Abraham Rutan, Thomas Baker and Sarah van Sickel." Sarah was born circa 1721.³ As of 1741,her married name was Rutan.^3,4 She married Peter Rutan Jr at New Jersey, USA, in 1741.^3,4,5 As of after 28 March 1754,her married name was Sickle.⁶ Sarah Thompson married Abraham Sickle, son of Abraham Sickle Sr and Elizabeth _, after 28 March 1754; when she is administratrix on Peter Rutan's estate; widow.⁷ Her married name was Innes.⁸ She married James Innes after 10 December 1759.⁸ Sarah died before 4 September 1762 at New Jersey, USA.^3,9

     Bethuel was born. He married Elizabeth Riggs [Ri39].¹

     Jemima was born circa 1756.¹ She married Josiah [Junia] Riggs [Wa40] on 26 October 1783.^2,3 Jemima died on 4 April 1836.¹

     Susanna was born on 2 March 1783.^1,2,3 She was baptized on 11 May 1783. Religion: (an unknown value).¹ Susanna was listed as a member of a church at Morristown, Morris, New Jersey, USA, on 11 July 1802.⁴ She married William L (F?) Larzelere on 13 December 1804.¹ She moved on 26 December 1810. Deduced from dismissal from Morristown Presbyterian.⁴

     Mary was born on 14 August 1788.^1,2,3 She was baptized on 5 October 1788. Religion: (an unknown value).¹

     Rachel was born on 11 October 1790.^1,2,3 She was baptized on 2 January 1791. Religion: (an unknown value).¹

     Phebe was born on 25 June 1797.^1,2,3 She was baptized on 17 September 1797. Religion: (an unknown value).¹ Phebe died on 1 December 1817 at Seneca, New York, USA, at age 20.¹

     Aaron was born on 28 July 1793.¹

     Jacob was born. He married Rachel Riggs at Essex, New Jersey, USA, on 24 January 1796.^1,2

     William was born in 1778.¹ He married Susanna Wood Riggs on 13 December 1804.¹ William died in 1847.¹

     Emily was born.¹ She married Benjamin Franklin Woodruff.¹
