"JOHN BEDELL, son of Jacob, inherited his father's farm of 120 acres, in Essex county. He and his wife, Martha, had but one daughter, Catherine, born 4th December, 1787, and married in June, 1806, Erastus Jones, son of Luther Jones, from Connecticut.

Her father died 1st June, 1788, aged 24 years, and she inherited the farm, except about 20 acres, which her father sold to Nathaniel Littell, Esq."

I can find no Rebecca, wife of Ebenezer Farrand on the list. If she is a sister of these as some claim, she must be a half sister by a former marriage of Samuel Parrit Jr. as Rebecca was born 1740, five years previous to his union with Eleanor Alling. So far we can find no record of such a marriage."

     Col Samuel Potter First Settlers, p 328:

"COL. SAMUEL POTTER, (son of Daniel, son of Samuel Potter 1st) married Jemima Baldwin, 5th child of John Baldwin ...

Col. Potter died 11th July, 1802, aged 76; his wife Jemima died, 25th November, 1819, aged 89 years. He was an officer in the militia, in the revolutionary war, and an elder, and one of the principal supporters of the church of New Providence, and a justice of the peace; they had children:

1. Caleb, who married 1st, on the 23d April, 1770, Phebe Parrot; 2d, a widow Hinds.

2. Lydia married Joseph Allen, brother of Daniel. ...

3. Samuel, who married Sarah Parson, daughters of William Parsons, Jun., and settled on Lamington river, Bedminster township, Somerset county.

4. Isaac married 1st, Abigail Bebout, daughter of Peter, of Long Hill; 2d, Abigail Swain, daughter of John Swain, of Cheapside.

5. Enos, born 28th March, 1762, married 20th February, 1787, Rhoda Miller, daughter of Elder Moses Miller, and went to Ohio.

6. Jemima married Mr. ____ Cory, and went up the North River.

     Thomas Baker 3d This Thomas Baker is assumed to be he who served as guardian to the Rutan and Sickle children because of his association with the New Providence church and because he is a peer of ABRAHAM RUTAN there. Thomas was born. He First Settlers, p 18:

"Thomas Baker, 3d who married, 19th March, 1769, hannah Howel. He married a 2d wife, (I have not learned her name.) He also married for his 3d wife, January, 1785, the widow, Martha Line, a sister of Benjamin Bedell; his children are not known; he died March 6th, 1787."

     Nathan was born. He I have assigned Nathan to Thomas Jr as in First Settlers, but he might actually be the same Nathan as the New Providence Records show as son of William, Thomas Jr's son.

     Rachel was born.¹ She married William Baker.² Rachel died in April 1790.²

     Richard Valentine First Settlers, p 455:

"RICHARD VALENTINE owned Nos. 35 and 44 of the Elizabethtown lots, and lived on No. 44, where Israel B. Long now lives. This lot contained 184 acres, and extended over the Mountain, and adjoined Peter Willcox's tract, lying west of it. It also adjoined the Pettit tract. No. 45, lying west of Valentine's. He married Phebe Haines, and died 10th March, 1766, aged 63 years; his widow, Phebe, then married William Miller, of Westfield; and after his death, she returned to her former homestead, on Stony Hill, and died there, 21st May, 1783, aged 76 years. Richard Valentine and Phebe Haines had children:

1. Jonah, who married Susannah Bedell, daughter of John Bedell, Jun.

2. Ephraim married Rhoda Price, sister of Abraham Price. ...

Here is the Genealogies of Long Island Families entry for Richard, 495:

"33. RICHARD^3 VALENTINE (Ephraim^2, Richard^1) settled in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, with his brother Ichabod about 1728. Ichabod is reported to have contracted small-pox, from which he died, and his brother Richard also contracted the disease while caring for him.

Richard, born about 1702, married in 1725 Phebe, daughter of James Haines and granddaughter of Benjamin Haines. She was born about 1705 and died in May 1783 at age seventy-six. She married (2) on 30 August 1781 William Miller.

It is ironical that this Richard's will, made 6 July 1764, was proved 25 March 1766 in Essex County, New Jersey, a little over a month earlier than that of Richard^4 (#16) with whom he has been confused.
