There is a James Gililland in Audrain Co in 1884, mentioned right alongside Jesse R. Gililland, so they might be brothers. The Gililland is spelled the same. Both James and Jesse R are living in Prairie Twp, Audrain Co, "at the beginning of the war" - ie, ca 1861.

James was the second teacher of "district No. 1".

"James Gililland taught the first school in the new house of worship, which was erected in 1858. Gililland started also the first debating society that was organized in the township. The first question that was discussed by the society was -- "Which has the greater influence over man, women or money." David Crocket and Buck Gililland were the chief Disputants."

Note that Jesse R had a son Benjamin known as "Buck".
