Feby. 1861. ... engaged iin suit with William Grady and his wife Sallie my niece to regain land descended to me by my father James Ray, brother Pleasant Ray and my sister Jane Ray. Friend Franklin Harris and his wife Jane. Daus of brother Peyton Ray: Dorcas Ray & Sallie Ray. Richard H. Scales & Ebenezer Carter to be paid for their expenses. Exr: Friend Richard H. Scales. Wit: R. H. Woodson, James W. Lillard." Sally was born circa 1778.³ She married JEAN "John" BELLENFANT after 23 August 1797. John Bellenfant's first wife died, at sea, 23 Aug 1797.⁴ She made a will at Rockingham, North Carolina, USA, on 20 May 1860.^5,2 Sally's will was probated at Rockingham, North Carolina, USA, in February 1861.⁶

"In the name of God amen, I James Ray of the County of Rockingham and State of North Carolina being well in body and sound in mind and memory thanks be to almighty God, do make and ordain this to be my last will & testament in manner & form. Following first I give my soul to God that gave it, and to what estate it hath pleased the almighty to gless me in this life, I give and dispose it in the following manner and form (Vis [?]) after paying all my just debts, [?], I send to my beloved wife Betty Ray during her natural life tract of land whereon I now live containing two hundred acres, also my stocks of cattle, hoggs, household and kitchen furniture and at her death it is my will and desire that all the land should be rented out every year to the highest bidder for ten years by my executors hereafter mentioned and the money to be equally divided amongst all my children as the rents comes in and as to my stock of cattle, hoggs, & household & kitchen furniture to be equally divided amongst my three daughters, Sally Bellenfant, Jinny Ray, and Ursley[?] Ray to them & their heirs lawfully begotton forever. I [?] it is also my will and deisre that at the expiration of ten years that the whole of the land two hundred acres be set up and sold to the highest bidder by my executors & the money arising to be equally divided amongst all my children _____ Lastly, I appoint my three sons Parson Ray, Pleasant Ray & Payton Ray Executors of this my last will & testament revoaking all former wills by me made on witness whereof I have here unto set my hand & seal this the twenty third of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & six.

     Alfred (Albert) Booker Johnson Bible: "Ruth Johnson, fifth daughter of Alex. & Mary Johnson, was married to Albert Booker, son of Peter R. Booker, Esq., dec., by the Rev. Golman Green on the evening of October the 18th 1843. .... He at the age of 23 years 5 months & 26 days." This makes his birthday 22 Apr 1820.

Neely, on the evening of December 11th, 1845, She at the age of sixteen years, 11 months & six days. He at the age of _____." This makes her birthday 5 Jan 1829.

Also: "At rest Amanda M. Galloway aged 68 years, Columbia, Tenn., March 3, 1897, youngest child of Alexander & Mary J. Johnson."
