?MARY MORSE (MOSS)1
F, b. 28 August 1721, d. 30 July 1746
Father | Rev JOSEPH MORSE (MOSS) Jr |
Mother | ABIGAL RUSSELL |
?MARY MORSE (MOSS) Letter of 6 Jan 1899:
"Now the town [Derby CT] records say, Rev. Joseph Morse married Oct. 3 1916 [sic] Abigal Russell, then in the book of births recorded Sept. 23 1717, Abigal, and again Aug. 28 1721 Mary, daughters of Rev. Joseph and Abigal Morse. Now Abigal married Elisha Kent of Newton, Ct. and Mary married Ebenezer White, Danbury, Ct. Now Hannah, the daughter of Rev. Ebenezer and Mary Morse White married Ebenezer Durand."
It is a little difficult to tell, but I believe he is inventing, with this, a perfect genealogy to demonstrate to the addressee how easy it is to invent one. If the lineage above is true, then the 1721 birthyear for daughter HANNAH, shown in Durand Family, cannot be true.
We have to be careful here because the MARY MORSE connection, if true, would bring in JOHN MORSE, a signer of the New Haven pact 18 Feb 1639, according to the Beach letter of 30 Dec 1898.
Beach offers two other possibilities, in his letter of 6 Jan 1899:
"I find Hannah, dau. of Ebenezer White of Marshfield, who was born in 1721. What became of her I can't trace. He married Hannah Doggett in 1713. He is a son Daniel, son of Peregrine, son of 1st. William who came 1620 Mayflower."
Again, great caution should be exercised, because this version introduces a Mayflower connection.
And:
"In Braiton Record.
P. 754. I find a Hannah White, dau. of Joseph White and Sarah - his wife. Born 1724. Can't trace her father."
In his letter of 18 Jan 1899, he suggests pursuing just the last two Hannahs:
"... daughter of Ebenezer, who was born 1721; the other being a daughter of Joseph who was born 1724, showing that these two lived contemporary with Ebenezer Durand, who was born 1724."
For what it's worth, note that Mary Morse b 1721 could, if married in 1737 at 16 years of age, have a child Hannah, say, b 1738 who would be 16 in 1754 when EBENEZER DURAND m HANNAH WHITE. It's tight. Perhaps this is why Beach suggested pursing the other two possibilities. But according to LDS records for Mary's sister Abigail, she married at 15. ?MARY was born at Derby, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, on 28 August 1721.2 She married EBENEZER WHITE at Danbury, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA, on 20 October 1736.3,4 ?MARY died on 30 July 1746 at age 24.4
