     Lydia was born at Medina River, Bexar, Texas, USA, on 8 May 1889. She married Louis James "Louie" Reid on 22 February 1922. Lydia died on 5 August 1938 at El Paso, El Paso, Texas, USA, at age 49.

     He married Barbara Rodgers on 24 November 1971.

     She married John Rodgers in 1981.

     She married Frank Reid.

     Sgt ALVIN IRVING HORWITZ At our grandson Sam's Bar Mitzvah in Cleveland, Ohio Feb 14, l998 we had the opportunity to have long visits with both Al and Bert. We had met them in California a number of years ago. We had a great time while in Cleveland. Zu's Uncle Mort Sass and her Aunt Betty Sass hosted a party for Sam - Birthday and Bar Mitzvah.
     
A great story: After the Holocaust there were many orphan children and many people in America adopted a child. Al and Bert fostered an 18 year old girl and raised her for a couple of years. We met her [see Miriam Gross Wexberg] and she described a most interesting, and heartrending, experience. She, her older sister and her mother had been captured by the Germans. During some sort of excitement while they were being marched to a camp, her mother told she and her sister to run. They did--and had to a number of times later. She did not see her mother again. This girl is now Miriam Wexberg--and lives in Cleveland.
     
Al and Bert have both been very ill--but were recovered enough to be at Sam's Bar Mitzvah and the party.

Added 9 Jul 1998: The marriage covenant evidence gives his middle name as Isidore.

Both my father-in-law AL HORWITZ and my [Alvy Ray III Smith] father ALVY SMITH were named "Al", both were in WWII at about the same time and places, both won Bronze Stars, and both liberated Nazi concentration camps.

AL HORWITZ was one of the most successful salesmen of life insurance for Mutual of Omaha throughout his career, which lasted until his death at age 84. He maintained his clients right to the end. ALVIN was born at St. Ann's Hospital, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, on 12 June 1917.² He married BERTHA BARISHMAN at Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA, on 9 March 1941.³ He was decorated while serving in the military at Germany on 22 March 1945.⁴ ALVIN died on 26 June 2001 at University Heights, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, at age 84. His body was interred on 27 June 2001 at Beachwood, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, at Bet Olam.^5,6

     She married Sgt ALVIN IRVING HORWITZ at Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA, on 9 March 1941.²

     SAMUEL E HORWITZ The date on the burial lot conveyance should be 29 Aug 1949.

Al Horwitz told me, Alvy 3, 15 Jun 2000, that he sold farmer's clothes. He also verified that this man was his father. He and I found these records on a visit to the Cuyahoga County Archives together. SAMUEL was born at Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, on 15 May 1891.^4,5,6,7 He married BESSIE BARKIN before 12 June 1917. First child born 17 Jun 1917. SAMUEL died on 18 March 1953 at Tuscon Medical Center, Tuscon, Pima, Arizona, USA, at age 61.^8,4,7 His body was interred on 19 March 1953 at Mayfield Village, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, at Mt. Sinai Cemetery.^8,4,9,10

     BESSIE BARKIN In Al Horwitz's notes, between Sam Barkin and Bessie [Barkin] Horwitz is this notation:

"Sister husband Sam Feinberg 2nd
7/2/1959 May 21-1961 hus."

I think this is two side by side tombstones, for the two husbands of a sister of either SAM BARKIN or BESSIE BARKIN. I have no sisters for SAM recorded and two for BESSIE. I don't know which the above notation refers to (if at all). BESSIE was born at New York City, New York, New York, USA, on 24 January 1892.^2,3 She married SAMUEL E HORWITZ before 12 June 1917. First child born 17 Jun 1917. BESSIE died on 23 October 1954 at Huron Road Hospital, East Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, at age 62.^2,3 Her body was interred on 25 October 1954 at Mayfield Village, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, at Mt. Sinai Cemetery.^2,4,5

     Neil was born at Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, on 12 February 1951. Neil died on 30 November 1995 at Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, at age 44.

     He married Victoria Awason. He married Ouida Lucretia Smith at Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA, in 1973.

     ANNA was born at Minsk, Beloruss, on 15 December 1894.¹ She married HYMAN BARISHMAN at Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA, on 21 December 1913.¹ ANNA died on 8 May 1969 at Huron Road Hospital, East Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, at age 74.² Her body was interred on 11 May 1969 at Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA, at Covedale Cemetery.²

     HYMAN BARISHMAN Haman Bareshman in naturalization evidence, and Hyman Bareshaman in marriage evidence.

His daughter, Bertha, told me (13 Jun 2000) that he was shot in the back and killed. He was running a grocery store at the time. He was shot by someone intending to rob the store. HYMAN was born at Teechan, Russia, on 16 May 1889.² He petitioned the court to become a citizen at Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA, on 26 November 1912.³ He married ANNA MINKOFF at Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA, on 21 December 1913.² HYMAN died at Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA. His body was interred before 28 December 1982 at Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA, at Tiferes Israel Cemetery.⁴

     He married Bessie Rodgers. Jacob was born at Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA, on 16 December 1915. Jacob died circa 1990.¹
