?ROBERT SAUNDERS1
M, b. circa 1690, d. after 25 June 1766
Father | ?JOHN SAUNDERS b. c 1650, d. b 24 Feb 1700 |
Mother | SARAH HARGRAVE b. c 1660, d. c 1730 |
?ROBERT SAUNDERS Tentative. NB. The problem here is proving that this Robert is father of our James Sr. The logic proceeds as follows: As shown below, John is clearly Robert's son. Then it is argued that John and James Sr must be brothers (see arguments in Text for John).
The Robert Saunders Family Group Sheet by Teresa Wilson Wiese cites the following:
"OTHER SPELLINGS OF NAME: Sanders
"SOURCES FOR PARENTAGE: Robert was the son of John and Sarah Saunders as proven by the two 1766 deeds (f), and will of his father (e)
"SOURCES FOR BIRTH AND DEATH: Date of birth is an estimate. Date of death is believed to be shortly after the 1766 deeds (a), though this is not known for certain. No other mention of Robert has been found after 1766. [Mrs. King believes he may have been living with his son John in Halifax Co. at the time of the above deeds (a)]
"SOURCES FOR MARRIAGE: Miss Spratley is believed to be his wife per the will of a John Spratley that mentions his granddaughter, Mary Saunders, Daughter of Robert Saunders. (See source (c))
...
"PLACES OF RESIDENCE: Robert was probably born in York Co. since his father was there in 1677. Robert was still in York in 1711 and referred to as "Mr. Robert Saunders of Williamsburg", York Co, Virginia in his father-in-law's will in 1728. The two deeds in 1766 imply he was in Halifax Co.
