William and his two brothers came to United States, his brothers settling in Massachusetts. William settled in Virginia, later moving to North Carolina, then South Carolina (according to Snowden's History of South Carolina). He lived near Hurricane Creek, South Carolina. All three brothers were Revolutionary War soldiers (see Snowden).

William is believed to be buried at Old Shiloh Cemetery, near Brushy Creek, Anderson County, South Carolina."

James (1782-1866) Clardy (or other similar named relatives) show up in the 1790, 1800, and 1810 censuses for Pendleton District, South Carolina.

Many of the Clardys moved from Pendleton District, South Carolina to various counties in Tennessee between 1810 and 1820. James and France moved in 1811. James then shows up in the 1820 Bedford County, Tennessee census. Two older Benjamins can be found in the 1820 Franklin County and Smith County, Tennessee censuses.
