"[no title]

Aug. 24. Old friends and neighbors here were shocked by the sudden death Monday, August 13, of Mrs. Marguerite A. Sifleet, 87, wife of Brook Park's first mayor, the late Wm. J. Sifleet, who passed away in 1932. Mrs. Sifleet had made her home with her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. A. Corwin Sifleet, in Chatham, N. J., for many years before her death. The Sifleets lived in their homestead on Smith Rd. for well over sixty years. The home, an old landmark, a farm house surrounded by farm buildings, was destroyed by fire after Mrs. Sifleet had gone to live with her son, and the home here was occupied by renters. Many pieces of antique furniture dear to the Sifleet family, which were stored on the second floor, were also de-stroyed in the fire.

The funeral was held at the Baker Funeral Home, Berea, on Friday at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Appelhof of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church officiating at the service. Following, she was laid beside her husband and daughter, Hazel Sifleet Sanders, in Woodvale. She leaves her son Corwin and wife Arlien, who cared for her through many years of ailing health; her grand-daughters, Hazel's children, Alice and Edith, and one grandson and four granddaughters [these last five should be great-grandchildren, and they should be two great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters, including one adopted one]."

In the funeral evidence for his wife, there are two mentions of William J Sifleet Jr, who does not otherwise show up in this genealogy. There is a W. J. Sifleet listed underneath William J Sifleet Jr in the funeral memorial book for Marguerite. [But look under James Edward Sifleet, kinship unknown, who has a son William J Sifleet in OH]

"City History of Brook Park
...
It was originally a part of Middleburg Township. In 1914, residents living in the northern part of the township, dissatisfied with schools, roads, and taxes, met secretly and voted to withdraw from the township and establish their own municipality. William J. Sifleet, a leading proponent of secession, is often referred to as "the Father of Brook Park." Credited with naming the community for the brook that ran through the western portion of Middleburg, he was elected the first mayor.
...
Brook Park's rural character changed dramatically when William R. Hopkins, Cleveland city manager, selected its northwest section as the site of Hopkins Airport in 1925, and for a few years, the village had the distinction of being the location of the first and largest commercial airport in the world.
