"Charles Warren Riggs
died 1 March 1849 - age 20 years, 4 months, 25 days
son of Silas & Harriet Riggs (right of Jetur)." Charles was born on 7 October 1828.^3,1,4 Charles died on 1 March 1849 at age 20. Crayon gives 1 Mar 1848.^5,6,4 His body was interred at Succasunna, Morris, New Jersey, USA, at 1st Presbyterian Church.¹

     Nancy Stansborough Crayon: "of Milton". There is a Milltown, near New Brunswick, NJ. Nancy was born on 29 August 1816.^2,1 She married Albert Rose Riggs on 26 June 1839.^2,3,4 Nancy died on 6 June 1915 at age 98.² Her body was interred at Succasunna, Morris, New Jersey, USA, at 1st Presbyterian Church.²

     John Stansborough Riggs Sucasunna Presbyterian Church:

On the left side of the Albert and Nancy RIGGS monument:

Although this does not explicitly say that John S is a son, he almost undoubtedly is because of his similar dates and placement of inscription and gravestone with those of specified daughter Mary E.

The Lum Genealogy supports this. Adds "was unmarried, lived at Succasunna." John was born on 31 May 1842.^1,3,4 John died on 7 January 1915 at age 72.^1,2 His body was interred at Succasunna, Morris, New Jersey, USA, at 1st Presbyterian Church.¹

Lum Genealogy verifies that he is. Mary was born on 31 July 1849.^1,3,4 Mary died on 2 September 1851 at age 2.^1,3,4 Her body was interred at Succasunna, Morris, New Jersey, USA, at 1st Presbyterian Church.¹

     Dr Jetur R Riggs Jetur might be the same person listed as Peter in First Settlers, which does not list a Jetur. If Littell's list order is correct then Peter was the first child. Jetur could have been the first child of the marriage of Silas and Harriet by his birth date.

Crayon Riggs Genealogy:

"Had children, Mary, Nancy, Jeter, M.D. at Oak Ridge, d. in Paterson, N.J. Nov. 5, 1869" reads ambiguously: Were Mary(?) and Nancy also b in Oak Ridge? The following also listed on different page:

"3, Dr. Jeter Rose, born January 20, 1809, never married, was physician at Oak Ridge, N.J., and a Senator, died at Paterson, November 5, 1869."

     Rev Joseph Lewis Riggs First Settlers, p 342:

"1. Joseph Lewis, who is a presbyterian minister, and married Elizabeth Anne Roosa, daughter of Egbert Roosa, of Wells, Bradford county, Penn. where he is settled as a pastor. He had children:

1. Edward Hinman; 2. William Congar." Joseph was born on 19 March 1809.^1,2 He was baptized on 21 May 1809 at New Providence, Essex, New Jersey, USA.³ He married Elizabeth Anne Roosa at Wells, Pennsylvania, USA, on 1 May 1844.^1,2

     Rev Elias R Riggs First Settlers, 342:

"2. Elias, who married Martha Jane Dalzel, of Mendham. He became a presbyterian minister, and with his wife went in October, 1832, as missionaries to Greece, and from thence to Smyrna, in Asia; they had children:

1. Elizabeth; 2. Margaret; 3. Edward; 4. Emma Louisa."

Mendham Presbyterian Supplement contains this article:

"Reverend Elias Riggs, Translator, 1810-1901" by Helen M. Wright, pp. 40-5"

from which much of the data for this family was obtained. He was an accomplished translator. In his long history, he translated the Bible into Armenian and into Bulgarian. Elias was born at New Providence, Essex, New Jersey, USA, on 19 November 1810.^2,3,4 He was baptized on 29 September 1811 at New Providence, Essex, New Jersey, USA.⁵ Elias was listed as a member of a church at Mendham, Morris, New Jersey, USA, in 1832.⁶ He married Martha Jane Dalzel at Mendham, Morris, New Jersey, USA, on 18 September 1832.^2,7,4 He resided at Constantinople, Turkey, on 14 February 1891.⁸ Elias died in 1901.³

     Margaret Riggs First Settlers, p 342:

"3. Margaret married, 1st Oct. 1834, James Mitchel Ray, a native of Cauldwell, Essex county, N. J. now a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, and is cashier of the state bank of Indiana. They had children:

1. Anna Axtel Ray; 2. Harriet Martha Ray; 3. Louisa Montfort Ray; and have lost six children." Margaret was born before 29 August 1813.¹ She was baptized on 29 August 1813 at New Providence, Essex, New Jersey, USA.² She married James Mitchel Ray on 1 October 1834.³

     Hannah Riggs First Settlers, pp 342-343:

"4. Hannah married the Rev. Joseph Y. Montfort, of Greensburgh, Indiana, son of Rev. Francis Montfort, of Ohio. They had children:

1. Elias Riggs Montfort.
2. Francis Cosat Montfort.
3. Margaret Congar Montfort."

Mendham Presbyterian Supplement, 41, gives his name as Joseph G Montfort. She married Rev Joseph Y(G?) Montfort.³ Hannah was born before 24 September 1815.³ She was baptized on 24 September 1815 at New Providence, Essex, New Jersey, USA.⁴

     Phebe Riggs First Settlers, p 343:

"5. Phebe married, 8th Sept. 1845, Rev. Samuel S. Potter, son of Isaac. He is a presbyterian minister, settled in 1850, in Lawrenceburgh, Indiana. They had children:

1. Margaret Riggs Potter.
2. Joseph Lewis Potter."

Records of the New Providence Church (records transcribed by George Parrot), p. 121, shows Phebe Riggs to be attached to the church on 27 Apr 1832. She was baptized before 6 October 1817 at New Providence, Essex, New Jersey, USA.² Phebe was born before 6 October 1817.¹ She married Rev Samuel Sanford Potter on 8 September 1845.³

     Elizabeth Riggs First Families, p 343:

"6. Elizabeth married, 25th Aug. 1842, Antrim Robbins Forsyth, merchant of Greensburgh Indiana, son of John Forsyth, of Trenton, N. J. and had children:

1. Elias Riggs Forsyth.
2. William Congar Forsyth, who died in infancy.

Mrs. Elizabeth Forsyth died 7th Sept. 1848." Elizabeth was born before 19 April 1822.¹ She was baptized on 19 April 1822 at New Providence, Essex, New Jersey, USA.² She married Antrim Robbins Forsyth on 25 August 1842.¹ Elizabeth died on 7 September 1848.¹
