They came into Tularosa and graduated in 1939 with my mother Edith Sanders Smith's class. Because I was born on My Dad Dick Gililland's ranch without a Doctor. My Mom delivered me herself then called for my 13 year old sister to bring her the scissors to cut the cord. Mama was going to move to Tularosa in a month, when I was to be born, but I came early. I was named after Lola Cain, who had been a neighbor when Mama had pneumonia and the baby she was expecting had to be taken to save Mama's live. Mrs. Cain helped take care of Mama at that time and later was our neighbor on the Ranch. When I applied for a Birth Certificate and got the letters I needed, I thought my name was Lola Tom Gililland and it was on all my school records and at work. So that is on my Birth Certificate and is my name. Years later I asked Mama why she had named me Tom, cause I hated that name, and she told me she didn't name me that, I did. She said when I was little if I had a dress on I wanted to be called Lola and if I had pants on I wanted to be called Tom, so I grew up thinking my name was Lola Tom. Which it is now. The name I use on everything now is Lola G. Tucker."
