Spines of Alvy's Copy of Pixar Spinoff Documents

History

Pixar Founding Documents

Here are the spines of the founding documents of Pixar. This is my personal set of the three volumes. There are four other sets: Ed Catmull, the other Co-founder of Pixar with me, has one. Steve Jobs, our investor, had one. Lucasfilm has one. The attorneys have one (Farella, Braun & Martell).

Some of the interesting pages follow below. Also see:

These are exactly the 40 founding employees of Pixar, including Ed Catmull and Alvy Ray Smith, the Co-founders. One of the 38 other founding employees is John Lasseter. Steve Jobs is the venture's capitalist - that is, its investor. He is not on this list. The original management team of Pixar was Ed, President, and Alvy, Vice President. The original Board of Directors consisted of Ed, Alvy, and Steve, with Steve as Chairman of the Board. The listed employees owned 30% of Pixar and Steve owned 70% at the founding.

[Historical Note: Malcolm Blanchard, Ed Catmull, David DiFrancesco, and Alvy Ray Smith from this list were the original members of the Computer Graphics Lab at New York Institute of Technology, with Malcolm and Ed slightly preceding David and Alvy. Also, Ralph Guggenheim and Bill Reeves from this list were at NYIT. Slightly later, Tom Duff, also at NYIT, rejoined us at Pixar. Ed, Alvy, and David were the original three employees of the Computer Division of Lucasfilm, arriving in quick succession in that order, and rejoined not too much later by Malcolm Blanchard.]

This is a page from a Pixar business plan of 12 Sep 1988 for one of the frequent attempts to sell or raise money for Pixar, with Ed and Alvy listed as the Pixar "co-founders" and Jobs listed as co-founder of Apple and NeXT.
