Capt Thomas Darling1,2
M, d. 5 February 1784
Thomas was born. He This Mr Darling cannot be the father of "our" Sarah Darling because he died, as the record below shows, in 1784 but WILLIAM PARROTT married the "widow Darling" (and mother of Sarah) in 1713.
New Providence Presbyterian Records:
Deaths, 1784: "Darling, Cap^t. Th^s, died Feb. 5."
Email from Marianne Frey, 22 Jul 2001:
"According to the New Jersey Abstracts of Wills, Thomas wrote a will in August 1777 naming wife Abigail, sons Lot and William, and granddaughter Hannah daughter of deceased son Samuel. The will wasn't proved until Thomas' death in 1784 -- he may have written it when he did because the neighborhood had just been through a devastating smallpox epidemic. (I have not been able to find out whether this caused Samuel's death.) Elsewhere I have come across additional children assigned to Thomas: Abigail and Sylvanus. Either they weren't his, or both died before 1777. But no Sarah, no Elizabeth."
New Providence Presbyterian Records:
Marriages
1767: "Darling, Lot, & Hannah Dickinson, Feb. 19."

Sarah Darling HALF-SISTER OF WILLIAM PARROTT.
First Settlers, p 37:
"Peter Bebout, married, 2d, Sarah Darling, half-sister of William Parrot, Sen., ..."
So SAMUEL PARROTT's 2d wife, the mother of WILLIAM, married a Mr Darling, after SAMUEL's death, and had Sarah. We surmise that she was widowed by Sam since Sarah was born (according to LDS evidence) abt 1728, whereas her Parrott sons have birthdates, 1714 and 1716.
New Providence Presbyterian Records, Deaths, 1793:
"Bebout, the Widow, d. Feb. 2."
Baptisms, 1783:
"Bebout, "Widow Sarah Bebout, two of her children Stephen & Nancy", April 9."
It is curious that she is called a widow on 9 Apr 1783 when the same records give his death as 23 Aug 1784:
New Providence Presbyterian Records, Deaths, 1784:
"Bebout, Peter, died Aug. 23."

Sarah Bebout is a witness to Daniel Clark's will about 1756 in Elizabethtown; WILLIAM PARROTT is an executor along with ABIGAIL, Daniel's wife, soon to be WILLIAM's wife. This is probably Sarah (Darling) Bebout here.4 Sarah was born at ?Piscataway, NJ, before 17 December 1713.2 Her married name was Bebout.5,2 She married Peter Bebout.5,2 Sarah died on 2 February 1793 at New Providence, Essex, New Jersey, USA.3

I believe this is simply an error. See the next entry:

"Bebout, Ebenezer, & Sarah Jewell, Dec. 23."
So Ebenezer married Sarah Jewel, not his (assumed) father.

Samuel Parrott From Arlien Sifleet's evidence:
"Eleanor Parrot ... was d. Sam Parrott of Troy (s. Sam Parrot of Elizabethtown N.J. who was of Eliz - as early as 1704 & who has the record of births & deaths in his family now being in possession of Mrs. Mary Smith, Troy Hills N.J. stating his oldest child was born there) born in Eliz 10/8/1716 d. in Troy 11/29/1788 & Eleanor Alling d. & only child of Joseph Alling but traditionally earlier of Eliz."
Parritt Homestead:
"In 1745 Eleanor married Samuel Parrit, born October 8 1716 second son of Samuel Parrit by his second wife, of Elizabethtown." This makes WILLIAM b 1714 the first son of SAMUEL.
Also:
"Here Eleanor Alling and her husband lived and here their children were born, Phebe, Elizabeth, Susanna, Charity, Joseph, Ann, Mary, Eleanor, Samuel 1st, Samuel 2nd, and Archibald. I can find no Rebecca, wife of Ebenezer Farrand on the list. If she is a sister of these as some claim, she must be a half sister by a former marriage of Samuel Parrit Jr. as Rebecca was born 1740, five years previous to his union with Eleanor Alling. So far we can find no record of such a marriage. [But cf ?Phebe and ?Rebecca]
Of Eleanor's eleven children, we see six reach maturity. After her death which occurred August 7 1787 her husband's following in November one year later ..."
So dying young or in infancy were Susanna, Mary, both Samuels and Archibald.
I am equating the Eleanor Alling of Arlien's notes with the Helen of "Sam + Helen Parrot" elsewhere in her notes, Eleanor being a form of Helen. The dates make sense, the locale makes sense (Whippany, Troy Hills, and Hanover are all within 4 miles of one another), and the religion makes sense (Arlien copied her notes from Presbyterian church records in these towns). All the children's names are supported by other evidence so I think I am justified.
Here are the notes for children of Sam + Helen Parrot in the evidence:

Of their large family of children, the only ones to leave issue were four daughters, the wives of Henry Howell, Silas Parritt, John Cobb, Esq., and Col. Eleanor ["Nelly"] Parrott Parritt Homestead:
"It was in this room that Eleanor Parrit married Col Hiram Smith in 1778."
Also:
" Here in Dr. Parritt's house, Eleanor Parritt Smith died on Thursday Nov 22 1810 of inflamation of the lungs at the age of fifty years. We find the notice of her death published the following Tuesday in the Palladium of Liberty edited by Jacob Mann of Morristown."
Aunt Arlien's Notes:
"Eleanor Parrot, wife of Col. Hiram Smith, was b. 6/1/1760 & d. 12/22/1810 (see obituary notices in Palladium[this is the Palladium of Liberty, a newspaper] Library Mor't [Morristown] - 11/28/1810, which constitutes her characteristics as meekness, benevolence & humility, See Parsippany gravestone records) & was d. Sam Parrott of Troy ... " See text for her father Samuel Parrott for continuation of this quote.
There is a problem with this evidence: the obituary date is before the death date. I suspect that one of them is simply off by a month.

"Eleanor PARRITT
Birth: 1760

Father: Samuel PARRITE
Mother: Eleanor ALLING"
NJ Index of Wills, Morris Co:
"Parritt, Eleanor, 1083N. B. 39, p. 312. Wd. 1801." [Wd = Ward] This event appears to be directly related to the death of brother Joseph.
Parsippany Gravestones:
"Eleanor Parrott Smith, w. Hiram 1779 Mar. 14, 1841" [I must have transcribed a nearby line because these dates are nowhere near the ones known. They must be for daughter Ann]. Eleanor was born at Troy Hills, Morris, New Jersey, USA, on 1 June 1760.4,5 She married Col Hiram Smith at Troy Hills, Morris, New Jersey, USA, on 14 October 1778.6,7,2 Eleanor died on 22 December 1810 at Dr Joseph Parrott's home, Troy Hills, Morris, New Jersey, USA, at age 50.2

"Eleanor Alling d. & only child of Joseph Alling"
See evidence for son-in-law Samuel Parrott.
From Alling evidence:
"Joseph Allen (Allin), b. presumably in 169_ or 170_, traditionally at Elizabethtown, but no confirmation of this is found; d. 1753-60 in present Troy Hills, Morris Co. He is first mentioned in a deed of July 2, 1725, to Gershom Mott as owning land next that conveyed, on Parsippany (now called Troy) Brook in Hanover tp. (HuCt I, rev.: 74). He was perhaps the earliest of the pioneer residents of the Parsippany-Troy Hills area to acquire land there after the West Jersey Proprietors, in 1715, took up their apportionments in that part of the Colony. His home, of which the foundation site was identifiable within living memory, was on the present Beverwyck Road, South, closely adjacent to the residence, still standing, built by his grandson, Dr. Joseph Parritt, and inherited by the latter's sister Eleanor, wife of Col Hiram Smith, whose descendants have since, as late as 1942, owned and occupied it as a Smith homestead. A small brook nearby is referred to in a road survey of 1762 as "Joseph Allen's Brook". (MsPO). In March, 1726/7, Joseph Allen was chosen constable for Hanover tp. In 1737, spelling his name "Allin", he mortgaged 110 acres of his farm next Parsippany (Troy) meadows, and paid off the mortgage in yearly instalments for the next ten years. (HuCt 2:165; HuMT C:15). In 1747/8 and 1749 he was Overseer of the Poor in Hanover tp., and is last mentioned on Aug. 31, 1753, in the diary of Rev. Jacob Green of Hanover, as furnishing a load of hay. (MrCt 1:212,243; Princeton Univ.Lib.Mss.). He left no will, his property descending to his only daughter. In a Court order in 1801, referring to the above land, his name is given as "Joseph Alling", but the only specimen of his signature found to date omits the final "g". (MrD A:228; L:1)."
