     John was born circa December 1839.¹ John died in November 1852.¹ His body was interred at Summit, Schoharie, New York, USA, at Old Summit Cemetery.¹

     Catherine was born at New York, USA, on 6 August 1811.^1,2 She married John Joseph Berner (Barner).^1,2 Catherine died on 19 July 1896 at age 84.³ Her body was interred at Charlotteville, Schoharie, New York, USA, at Charlotteville Town Cemetery.²

     Nancy was born at Schoharie, New York, USA, on 31 August 1840.^1,2 She was baptized at Union Dutch Reformed Church, Cobleskill, Schoharie, New York, USA, on 14 July 1845. Religion: (an unknown value).²

In this Dings-Drum family there were six boys, sons and stepsons, who served as volunteers in the War of the Rebellion. Peter Dings was buried at Grand Island, Neb. He was energetic, loved children and was honest and kind. No greater praise is needed."

David Dings (1833-1907) left motherless at the age of seven, lived with his uncle, Joseph Barner, of Charlotteville, N.Y., until he gave up school and started ot learn the carpenter trade. Later he became a millwright and miller, merchand and manufacturer. At various times he operated or owned flour mills at Braymanville, Schoharie, Huntersland and Oak Hill, N.Y.

The rough pen sketch herewith, made from an old photograph, shows the mill property at Braymanville, (Howe Cave) N.Y., as teh writer remembers it many years ago. The place is over a century old. It was here that David Dings made his first business venture in 1859, operating the mill for his grandfather, David I. Barner, in connection with some kind of a partnership with his uncle, Nelson Eckerson ...

His war record reads: "Miller, married, age thirty-two; enlisted Sept. 3, 1864; volunteer from Schoharie Co., N.Y; served in Co. H., 91st Reg't; was in many important battles and did full service until honorably discharged on June 10, 1865, at the close of the war." In 1880 he moved from New York State to Nebraska, and lived at Grand Island for about nine years, where he was an honored member of Lyon Post, G.A.R. of that city. In 1889, he moved to Milwaukee, Wis., where he spent the remainder of his years. He m. Melissa Baker (1838-1913) dau. of Phineas Baker and Mary Ann Washburn, of Berne, Albany Co., N.Y.

I am not convinced that Joseph H is a son of David I Barner because his son John Joseph also went by the name Joseph, apparently (that's how he is referred to in the Dings Family in America book). On the other hand, the 1850 census shows there to be a tight association between the Dings family and Joseph H Barner AND with John J Barner. ?Joseph was born circa 1818.¹ He married Margaret (?). Child b ca 1847.¹ ?Joseph was listed as the head of a family on the in 1850 Census at Harpersfield, Delaware, New York, USA.¹

     Margaret was born circa 1832.¹ She married ?Joseph H Barner. Child b ca 1847.¹

     Mary was born circa 1847.¹

     Maria was born circa 1849.¹

It appears that son Daniel and his wife Maria are living with George and Elizabeth, also son George and wife Margaret. Daniel Jr surely belongs to Daniel and Maria, but the other children could be either Daniel's or George's. The fact that Nancy, Warren, and Abel are in numerical order but Daniel Jr is not, suggests that they are children of George. Betsy Barner is probably the Elizabeth Barner of the will, dau of Maria Shafer, deceased dau of George and Elizabeth. He married Elizabeth (?).¹ George was born at New York, USA, circa 1780.² George was listed as the head of a family on the in 1850 Census at Cobleskill, Schoharie, New York, USA.² He made a will at Schoharie, New York, USA, on 13 March 1855.¹ George's will was probated at Schoharie, New York, USA, on 5 September 1859.¹

     She married George Schafer (Schaeffer, Shafer).¹ Elizabeth was born at New York, USA, circa 1783.²
