Sept. 12, 1756, Rachel, bap. Nov. 11, 1759." Gideon was born at Orange, Essex, New Jersey, USA, circa 1713.^2,3,4,5,6,7 He married Rebecca [Rebeckah] _ circa 1742.^3,4,5 He moved circa 1746 at Morristown, Morris, New Jersey, USA.⁴ He resided at Morris Twp, Morris, New Jersey, USA, on 31 August 1752.⁸ Gideon Riggs [Ri52][Wa24] left a will on 24 August 1785 at Morristown, Morris, New Jersey, USA; Inventory 6 Feb 1786.⁹ Gideon died on 24 January 1786 at Morristown, Morris, New Jersey, USA.^3,4,5,10 He was buried after 24 January 1786 at Presbyterian Church Graveyard, Morristown, Morris, New Jersey, USA.¹¹ His estate was probated on 18 March 1793 at Morristown, Morris, New Jersey, USA.¹²

"27. Joseph Riggs, Esq., (son of Joseph, Edward, Edward, Edward) was born in Orange, N.J., 1720. There is no record of his marriage, and all that is known of his wife is that her name was Abigail, and that the marriage took place, probably, in 1745. He received a good business education, was a magistrate many years, and a leading man in the business affairs of his neighborhood. At the opening of the Revolutionary War he was one of the committee of safety for the county of Essex. In the settlement of estates and attending to public business, generally his services were in constant requisition. Above all this he looked after the affairs and interests of the church, in which he was very energetic and prominent. In November, 1783, he removed to New York, but his stay there was not long. His will was made and proved in New Jersey. It was dated January 31, 1798, and proved August 29th of the same year. It names the children in the order given below, but particular dates have not been found.

Hatfield's History of Elizabeth NJ, 411:

[After the Boston Tea Party] "Measures were taken by the patriots of this town and county, shortly after receiving tidings of the Boston troubles, to give expression to the indignanat feelings of the people, and to extend sympathy to the Bostonians. At a formal meeting, held at the Court-House, in Newark, on Saturday, the 11th of June, an admirable paper, prepared, probably, by Wm. Livingston, was unanimously and heartily adopted, urging the country to stand united and firm in their opposition to Parliament, and inviting a Provincial Convention to assemble speedily to appoint Delegates to a general Congress. The following gentlemen were appointed a Committee to carry into effect the resoutions of the meeting, - viz. : Stephen Crane, Henry Garritse, Joseph Riggs, William Livingston, William P. SMith, John De Hart, John Chetwood, Isaac Ogden, and Elias Boudinot, Esquires.

Of this Committee, Mr. Garritse was of Aquackanock, Messrs. Riggs and Ogden were of Newark, and the remainder, two thirds, of this town...."⁴ Joseph was born at Orange, Essex, New Jersey, USA, circa 1720. Orange from Harry Moore.^5,2,3 He married Abigail _ in 1745.^6,3,7 Joseph Riggs [Ri55] was living on 1 January 1754 at Newark, Essex, New Jersey, USA; administrator of brother Miles' estate.⁸ He moved in 1783 at New York, USA.³ He made a will at Newark, Essex, New Jersey, USA, on 31 January 1798.^6,3,9 He died before 29 August 1799; will 31 Jan 1798; probate 29 Aug 1799. Joseph's will was probated at Newark, Essex, New Jersey, USA, on 29 August 1799.^6,3,10

     Daniel Riggs [Ri56] Crayon Riggs Genealogy:

"10, Daniel, born May 29, 1724, married Sarah Lamson November 23, 1748; she died September 24, 1776; he married second wife, Rhoda Condict, died at Orange, N.J. November 4, 1786, and had ten children, of whom many settled in Morris County." Daniel was born at Orange, Essex, New Jersey, USA, on 29 May 1724.^2,3,4 He married Sarah Lamson on 23 November 1748.^2,3 Daniel Riggs [Ri56] was living on 1 January 1754 at Newark, Essex, New Jersey, USA; bondsman for brother Mile's estate.⁵ He married Rhoda Condict after 24 September 1776.³ Daniel Riggs [Ri56] left a will on 31 October 1786 at Newark, Essex, New Jersey, USA.⁶ Daniel died on 4 November 1786 at Orange, Essex, New Jersey, USA, at age 62.³ His estate was probated on 13 December 1786 at Newark, Essex, New Jersey, USA.⁷

     She married Thomas Roberts.¹ Sarah was born circa 1726.¹ She was living on 1 January 1754; present at renouncement of brother(?) Mile's will.²

     Thomas was born. He married Sarah Riggs [Ri57].¹

     Volney was born at Venice Center, Cayoha, New York, USA, on 31 December 1819. Site given as Venice, NY. There is a Venice Center NY but not a Venice NY that I could find..¹ He married Lucinda Riggs at Kenton, Kentucky, USA, on 22 November 1849.^1,2

     Nathan was born at Campbell, Kentucky, USA, on 26 December 1838.¹

     John was born at Kenton, Kentucky, USA, on 11 February 1844.¹

     Catherine was born at Campbell, Kentucky, USA, on 7 October 1837.¹
