The marriage to Milton Parrish is listed only once, whereas Arlien has listed most of the information twice. This could be a place rather than a name. Perhaps Fannie or Elizabeth (ambiguous placement) was married in Milton Parish, Kent

On p 15- she has:

"Fanny m. Henry Coville of Cleveland
ch. Camarius
Birdie?"

This latter entry is suspect because it is the second time on this one page that she has listed Camarius and Birdie as children of one of Thomas SIfleet's siblings.

I will take her notes on p 33- as definitive. Her married name was Court.² She married James Court at Milton Parish, Kent, England.² Fannie Sifleet was born on 3 November 1815 at Milton Parish, Kent, England; 42 b England, 1860 OH census
54 b England, 1870 OH census.^3,4,5 She died on 14 May 1889.⁵

     Sarah Jane Sifleet Aunt Arlien Sifleet's notes:

"Mary Sifleet came to America from Kent England m Elias Jarret of Norwalk Ohio had 2 sons 1 daughter Rose m James Hale of Toledo they are buried at Toledo Ohio 1 son Elias living at Collins Ohio Thomas Jarret & wife Myrtle buried at Collins Ohio."

Aunt Arlien lists Elias Jarret as married to Sarah in one place and John Sherwood to her sister Mary Ann, but this contradicts two of her own listings in the same evidence, which are as I list them here. I believe that the way to parse Arlien's notes is thus this [but see new notes below and also notes for Sarah Jane, now under Mary Ann]:

Also there is an marriage record (LDS site) for Elias JARRETT m Sarah SIPHET ca 1844 OH, and a marriage record for Elias JARRETT m Mary E BEDFORD on 22 Nov 1883 Huron OH, perhaps the son of the former Elias Jarrett? This second record has batch no M513444.

There is also a Pedigree Resource File (CD #27) for Elias JARRETT bap 10 Nov 1821 Bobbing, Milton, Kent, England.

Based on the ambiguities in Aunt Arlien's notes and the relative certainty of the LDS records, I am going to swap Mary Ann for Sarah Jane. That is, I will swap husbands and children. This is still consistent with one reading of Aunt Arlien's notes, believe it or not. Sarah was born at Kent, England. She was the daughter of THOMAS SIFLEET and MARY (?). She married Elias Jarrett at Ohio, USA, circa 1844.^2,3

     Eliza Sifleet Aunt Arlien Sifleet's notes, 33-:

"Eliza Sifleet came to America from England (Kent) m. Henry Currier of Kipton Ohio both lived near Norwalk. had 1 son. Camarius lives at Kipton Ohio he m Carrie Coats. have 3 sons living & one dead 1 daughter Grace m Oscar Zucker. They have 1 son."

On p 15- is the following which I believe goes with "Eliza m. Henry Currier":

     George was born at England in July 1851.³ He was the son of William Sifleet and Mary _. George W Sifleet married Elizabeth McMeekin circa 1886.⁴ George W Sifleet appeared on the census of 1900 at Sylvania Twp, Lucas, Ohio, USA.⁵ George died on 30 November 1919 at Toledo, Lucas, Ohio, USA, at age 68.^6,7

     ELIZABETH ALEXANDER Her brother John was perhaps John D Rockefeller's most hated rival. See text for him and the Rockefeller evidence.

Her will:

"I Elizabeth Sifleet of the Township of Middleburg, County of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, do hereby make and publish this my last Will and testament; ... I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved husband Thomas Sifleet - all of my estate ... But if any of my said estate shall remain undisposed of by my said husband, at the time of his decease, I give devise and bequeath all of such residue and remainder of my siad estate to my beloved Son William J Sifleet, But if my said Son William J Sifleet or his issue, him surviving, should not survive me, and any of my said estate shall remain undisposed of by my said husband at the time of his decease, then will to and I do hereby give devise and bequeath all of such residue and remainder of my said estate to my beloved Son Thomas Emery ... In testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 19 day of May in the year AD 1886 ..." ELIZABETH was born at Bristol, Bristol, England, on 29 December 1822. Tombstone evidence gives b 1820.^3,4 She married Joseph Emery before 1846. She married THOMAS SIFLEET (SIFLETT) at Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, on 24 December 1855.^3,5,2,6,7,8 She made a will at Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, on 19 May 1886.² ELIZABETH died on 18 February 1892 at Middleburgh, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, at age 69.^3,4,2 Her body was interred at Berea, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, at Woodvale Cemetery.⁹ ELIZABETH's will was probated at Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, on 24 June 1892.²

     Elias was born. He I do not know for sure that the Elias Jarrett b Bobbing, Milton, Kent, England is our Elias but it seems very likely, since the sister-in-law Mary Ann of our Elias is also from Bobbing and the birthdate is about right. Also either sister-in-law Fannie or brother-in-law William was married in Milton Parrish, Kent. He was baptized at Bobbing, Milton, Kent, England, on 10 November 1821. Religion: (an unknown value).² He married Sarah Jane Sifleet at Ohio, USA, circa 1844.^3,4

     Elias Jarret (2) is the son of Elias Jarrett and Sarah Jane Sifleet.

     Thomas was born. His body was interred at Collins, Huron, Ohio, USA.² He was the son of Elias Jarrett and Sarah Jane Sifleet. Thomas Jarret Arlien, p 33-:

     He married Fannie Sifleet at Milton Parish, Kent, England.² James was born at England on 5 February 1811.³ He appeared on the census of 1860 at Collamer Post Office, East Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA; 49 M.⁴ He appeared on the census of 1870 at East Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA; 59 M.⁵ He died on 8 December 1875 at age 64.⁶

     John was born at Greenfield, Saratoga, New York, USA, on 29 August 1835.¹ He married Mary Ann Sifleet (Ciphlet) at Huron, Ohio, USA, on 25 December 1858.^1,2 John died on 27 February 1887 at age 51.¹

It is not clear who she is married to. It could be James Court or his son Charles Court. Joan was born circa 1848.

It is not ambiguous as whether she is married to James Court or his son Charles Court. Martha was born at Indiana, USA, circa 1855.² She married Charles Court circa 1879.^3,2 As of circa 1879,her married name was Court.^3,2

     Ann was born at Kent, England, circa 1841.^2,3 She married James Court at Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, on 3 July 1860.^4,5,6 As of 3 July 1860,her married name was Court.^4,5,6 Ann Datson died on 4 November 1877 at Glenville Village, East Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA.²

     Helen was born at New York, USA, in June 1841. As of after 4 November 1877,her married name was Court.^1,2 She married James Court circa 1879.^1,2

     Canarius was born on 2 January 1861.⁴ He was the son of Henry Currier and Eliza Sifleet. He married Carrie H. Coates on 17 June 1891.^5,6 Canarius Henry Currier died on 26 June 1951 at age 90.⁷

     Carrie was born on 18 April 1871.³ She married Canarius Henry Currier on 17 June 1891.^4,5 As of 17 June 1891,her married name was Currier.^4,5 Carrie H. Coates died on 15 March 1962 at age 90.⁶

     Walter H. Currier Arlien's notes, p 15-: "Walter d. 5 yrs old." Walter was born on 3 February 1900.³ He was the son of Canarius Henry Currier and Carrie H. Coates. Walter H. Currier died on 1 August 1907 at age 7.⁴

     Jay was born on 22 September 1902.³ He was the son of Canarius Henry Currier and Carrie H. Coates. Jay Hurbert Currier married Hyldreth Mitchell on 4 November 1921.⁴ Jay Hurbert Currier married Josephine Dobroe on 11 August 1930.⁵ Jay Hurbert Currier married Ruth Payne in 1952.⁶ Jay Hurbert Currier died on 13 March 1976 at age 73.⁷

     Grace Helen Currier Arlien's notes, p 33-:

"they have 1 son." Grace was born on 10 May 1910.³ She was the daughter of Canarius Henry Currier and Carrie H. Coates. As of 19 June 1930,her married name was Zurcher.^4,5 She married Oscar F. Zurcher on 19 June 1930.^4,5 Grace Helen Currier died on 2 February 1961 at age 50.⁶

     Leon Coates Currier There is a Social Security record for Leon CURRIER b 8 Jan 1894 d Dec 1972, OH, localities at death: Oberlin, Lorain, OH ZIP 44074. Leon was born on 8 January 1895.³ He was the son of Canarius Henry Currier and Carrie H. Coates. Leon Coates Currier married Helen A. Dudley on 17 November 1917.⁴ Leon Coates Currier died on 28 December 1972 at age 77.⁵

     Chauncey F. Currier There is a Social Security record for Chauncy CURRIER b 6 Jan 1897 d Mar 1985, OH, localities at death: Oberlin, Lorain, OH ZIP 44074. Chauncey was born on 6 January 1897.³ He was the son of Canarius Henry Currier and Carrie H. Coates. Chauncey F. Currier married Helen A. Fairchild on 26 August 1916.⁴ Chauncey F. Currier died on 29 March 1985 at age 88.⁵

     Oscar was born. He married Grace Helen Currier on 19 June 1930.^3,4 Oscar F. Zurcher died on 19 June 1990.⁵

     John H Alexander One of John D Rockefeller's most depised competitors, whom he put out of business in the Cleveland Massacre of 1872. See the Rockefeller evidence below.

Arlien Sifleets notes:

With Scofield, Teagle and Alexander Oil Co. in Cleveland. He had no issue with either wife. Adopted a boy Harry. The two wives were apparently sisters.

Arlien Sifleet's notes have him with Scofield, Teagle & Alexander Oil Co. of Cleveland and then with Standard Oil. Perhaps this is a confusion of the two companies (see Rockefeller evidence) Alexander, Scofield and Company and the later Scofield, Shurmer and Teagle. That he would join Standard Oil seems surprising, from reading the Rockefeller evidence, but that is apparently what happened.

From the Rockefeller evidence:

p 130: "Rampant speculation had so overbuilt the industry that total refining capacity in 1870 was triple the amount of crude oil being pumped. By then, Rockefeller estimated, 90 percent of all refineries were operating in the red. At this bleak impasse, a leading Cleveland rival, John H. Alexander, offered to sell his interest to William Rockefeller at ten cents on the dollar, as the entire industry faced ruin."

pp 142-143: "... Rockefeller engineered his most important coup: the swift, relentless consolidation of Cleveland's refineries, which gave him irresistible momentum. ... Between February 17 and March 28, 1872 - ... - Rockefeller swallowed up twenty-two of his twenty-six Cleveland competitors. During one forth-eight-hour period alone in early March, he bought six refineries. As one refiner, John H. Alexander, recalled:

'There was a pressure brought to bear upon my mind, and upon almost all citizens of Cleveland engaged in the oil business, to the effect that unless we went into the South Improvement Company we were virtually killed as refiners; that if we did not sell out we should be crushed out .... It was said that they had a contract with railroads by which they could run us into the ground if they pleased.' "

pp 146-147: "During the Cleveland Massacre, Rockefeller savored a feeling of sweet revenge against some of the older men who had patronized him when he started in business. This was especially true of his negotiations with Alexander, Scofield and Company, whose partners included his original boss, Isaac L. Hewitt. After Hewitt came to Rockefeller's Euclid Avenue home to plead for mercy, they strolled down Euclid Avenue together, and Rockefeller told him his firm would never survive if it didn't sell out to Standard Oil. He made a cryptic statement to Hewitt that entered into Rockefeller folklore: 'I have ways of making money you know nothing about.' Disconcerted by such assertions, Hewitt and his partners finally sold out for $65,000, though they believed their business was worth $150,000. Rockefeller felt merciful toward Hewitt and loaned him money to buy Standard stock, but he despised Hewitt's partner, John H. Alexander, who still viewed him, he thought, as Hewitt's former clerk. As Rockefeller put it, 'How could this conceited Englishman ever conceive it possible that a young man who had been a bookkeeper, and especially at a time when he had been employed in an oil refinery, be qualified to lead in a movement of this kind?' "

p 195: "Frank [Rockefeller] entered oil refining as a competitor to Standard Oil after he married the tall, handsome Helen E. Scofield in 1870. The Scofields were a relatively old Cleveland family, and Helen's father, William Scofield, was a partner in Alexander, Scofield and Company, one of the major refiners that John absorbed during the 1872 Cleveland Massacre. That Frank married the daughter of one of John's chief competitors could only have been interpreted by John as a provocation.
...
"...Frank testified before a congressional committee ... and charged John with heavy-handed tactics in buying out Alexander, Scofield. ... Frank electrified reporters with John's warning, 'We have a combination with the railroads. We are going to buy out all the refiners in Cleveland. We will give every one a chance to come in. We will give you a chance. Those who refuse will be crushed. If you don't sell your property to us it will be valueless.' According to Frank the experience of Alexander, Scofield wasn't unique. 'There are some twenty men in Cleveland who sold out under the fright, and almost any of them would tell you that story.' "

p. 196: "...Rockefeller ... did bear a special grudge against Scofield. When Standard Oil bought out Alexander, Scofield in 1872, the selling partners pledged to steer clear of refining. Nevertheless, a year later - in what Rockefeller considered an unforgivable breach of faith - Scofield organized a new refining company, Scofield, Shurmer and Teagle."
