     Larry Ray Coleman He died in a mountain climbing accident, rappelling off La Cueva in the Organ Mountains outside Las Cruces. Larry was born at Las Cruces, Dona Ana, New Mexico, USA, on 9 June 1953. He was the son of Clarence William "Bill" Coleman. Larry died on 18 September 1976 at Las Cruces, Dona Ana, New Mexico, USA, at age 23.

     Gary Bill Coleman is the son of Clarence William "Bill" Coleman. He married Eleanor Grove Ellis at Los Alamos, Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA, on 18 July 1981. Gary was divorced from Eleanor Grove Ellis at Las Cruces, Dona Ana, New Mexico, USA, on 1 July 1982. He married Lori Johnson (Cole) at Las Cruces, Dona Ana, New Mexico, USA, on 27 January 1984. Gary was divorced from Lori Johnson (Cole) at Las Cruces, Dona Ana, New Mexico, USA, on 29 July 1999. He married Tammy Templeton at Las Cruces, Dona Ana, New Mexico, USA, on 26 May 2001.

     He married Linda Joyce Kutcher at St John of the Cross, Lemon Grove, San Diego, California, USA, on 7 August 1974. He married Dolores Morris at Yuma, Yuma, Arizona, USA, on 16 September 1986. Bernie was divorced from Dolores Morris at San Diego, San Diego, California, USA, in February 2000.

She married Darrell Bryant at Alvy and Edith Smith's backyard, Clovis, Curry, New Mexico, USA, on 21 July 1979. Rita died on 16 November 1980 at Methodist Hospital, Lubbock, Lubbock, Texas, USA, at age 35. Her body was interred on 18 November 1980 at Clovis, Curry, New Mexico, USA, at Lawn Haven.

     She married James Douglas "Doug" Lockwood at Central Baptist Church, Clovis, Curry, New Mexico, USA, on 15 June 1969.

     SANDRA MARILYN "Zu" HORWITZ is the daughter of Sgt ALVIN IRVING HORWITZ. She married Dr ALVY RAY SMITH III at Bainbridge Island, Kitsap, Washington, USA, on 28 October 1984. Marriage certificate kept in King Co (Seattle) records..¹

     He married Rita Louise Smith at Clovis, Curry, New Mexico, USA, on 13 June 1967.

     Amy Lynn Echols is the daughter of Rita Louise Smith. She married Michael Floyd White at McCullough House, Waco, McLennan, Texas, USA, on 20 May 1990.

     James was born at Montgomery Co Hospital, Abington, Montgomery, Pennsylvania, USA, on 14 November 1946. He was the son of Ivan Claud Lockwood and Dorothy Mignon Seitz. He married Valerie Lynn Smith at Central Baptist Church, Clovis, Curry, New Mexico, USA, on 15 June 1969. James Douglas "Doug" Lockwood died on 16 March 2006 at Dallas, Dallas, Texas, USA, at age 59.¹

     Dr Joy Mignon Lockwood is the daughter of James Douglas "Doug" Lockwood. She married Dr Stuart Berry at Amarillo, Potter, Texas, USA, on 22 August 1998.¹

     Todd Andrew Lockwood is the son of James Douglas "Doug" Lockwood. Todd Andrew Lockwood married Abbey Elizabeth Crooks on 15 August 2003 at Everett, Snohomish, Washington, USA.¹

I doubt if any of this is true nor that Silas or his father was born in France.

So SILAS was the second Mayor of Crestline OH. And David Ogden, the first Mayor, is the brother of HENRIETTA OGDEN.

The 1870 OH Census Index lists the following:

History of Summit Co OH, p 698:

"SILAS DURAND, General Station Agent New York, Pennsylvania & Ohio Railroad, Akron: was born in Schoharie Co., N. Y., March 7, 1822, and is the third child of a family of five children born to Samuel and Phoebe (Barner) Durand; his father was a farmer, and Silas assisted on the farm, gaining his rudimentary education at the district schools until the age of 19; at this time, he began attending an academy, and, after studying a year, he began teaching, following this occupation for a number of years in York State and Pennsylvania, in Providence and Scranton. In 1848, he engaged with a mercantile establishment in Dunmore, near Scranton, as book-keeper, where he re-remained [sic] until 1850. Moving then to Monroeville, Ohio, he engaged with the firm of D. Squires & Co., merchants of that place, and continued with them for about two years, when the business was destroyed by fire, and the firm dissolving by mutual consent, the business was not revived. Mr. Durand then went to Crestline and took charge of the books of a warehouse and lumbering establishment, continuing here some four or five years, during which time he served one term as Mayor of the village. From this point he went to Delaware, and became Auditor and Treasurer of the S., Mt. V. & P. While teaching at Providence, Penn., he married Miss Nancy Drake, a native of that city; five children have blessed this union - Mary H., now Mrs. Parrott, of Bryan, Ohio; William A; Norman N; Frank S., baggage master and car clerk at Akron; and Eugene, deceased November, 1864, at Galion. Mr. Durand is an old member of the Methodist Church, dating his connection with the church some thirty-eight years back. In politics, he affiliates with the Democratic party, but is more influenced by the fitness of the candidate than by his party connections."

Silas died 3 Oct 1894, intestate. His heirs fought over the estate left by their mother Nancy and of which Silas was administrator. William A Durand, son, became administrator upon Silas's death, on 9 Oct 1894. The proceedings are dated until at least 12 Feb 1895, there being law suits amongst the heirs. The children, as listed in the estate papers dated 9 Oct 1894 were:

History of Summit Co gives birthdate and place as stated..^9,2,3,4,7 He was the son of SAMUEL DURAND [Du139] and PHOEBE BARNER. He moved circa 1842 at Providence Twp, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, USA.⁷ He married NANCY DRAKE at Providence Twp, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, USA, on 12 December 1842. Durand Family gives Providence, Pa as marriage place, but census data was taken in Providence Township. Providence PA is in Lackawanna Co, but Providence Township is in Luzerne Co. They are next door to one another, but I believe are separate entities. Perhaps in the past they were the same?

Here's the solution: (see details in birth text for MARY HORTENSE DURAND). Providence Twp, Luzerne Co, PA was there originally. It was subdivided into non-existence between 1819 and 1866. Providence borough was formed from it in 1849. Note that this was after SILAS and NANCY DURAND's marriage in 1842, so they were married in Providence Twp. Scranton subsumed Providence town (and most of the rest of Providence Twp) by 1866, and the township had ceased to exist. Lackawanna Co (where Scranton is located) was split off from Luzerne in 1878. The 1850 Census records SILAS and family in Providence Twp, not Providence borough (formed in 1849 from other parts of the original Providence Twp).

So Providence Twp, Luzerne Co, PA in 1842 would be Scranton, Lackawanna Co, PA today..^9,10 He moved in 1848 at Dunmore, Lackawana, Pennsylvania, USA. In modern Scranton, very near Providence..⁷ SILAS was listed as the head of a family on the on 16 August 1850 Census at Providence Twp, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, USA.⁴ He moved in 1850 at Monroeville, Huron, Ohio, USA.⁷ He moved circa 1852 at Crestline, Crawford, Ohio, USA.⁷ He moved circa 1856 at Delaware, USA.⁷ He moved circa 1859 at Galion, Crawford, Ohio, USA.⁷ SILAS was listed as the head of a family on the on 5 June 1860 Census at Crestline, Crawford, Ohio, USA.³ He resided at Galion, Crawford, Ohio, USA, on 18 December 1862.¹¹ He moved in 1865 at Akron, Summit, Ohio, USA.⁷ SILAS was listed as the head of a family on the in 1870 Census at Summit, Ohio, USA.⁶ SILAS was listed as the head of a family on the in 1880 Census at Akron, Summit, Ohio, USA.¹² SILAS died on 3 October 1894 at Akron, Summit, Ohio, USA, at age 72. Arlien's notes say 1895..^2,12,7,13 SILAS's will was probated at Summit, Ohio, USA, on 9 October 1894. The process began on this date..¹³

She is listed in the 1870 Summit Co, OH census. See text for her husband SILAS DURAND for census details.

Nancy Durand left a will dated 21 Aug 1882. Probate began with an application dated 6 Mar 1883, with her husband Silas as executor. The extensive probate file, case no. 4873, took years to settle, extending to after Silas's death 3 Oct 1894. Their son William A. Durand became executor 9 Oct 1894 upon Silas's death, intestate. I have a newspaper clipping that shows the heirs had a legal battle. Her heirs, according to her estate papers dated 6 Mar 1883 were:

     Norman Miller Durand [Du726] is the son of SILAS DURAND [Du375] and NANCY DRAKE. He married Rhoda "Rhodie" Kern at Summit, Ohio, USA, on 12 August 1880. LDS evidence gives "Summit, Ohio". This could be Summit, Clark, OH, as opp to Summit Co, OH. Clark Co is just south of Summit Co..^5,6,3

History of Summit Co OH, p 697:

"WILLIAM A. DURAND, Chief Clerk and Cashier N. Y., P. & O. R. R., Akron Depot, is a native of Pennsylvania. He was born in Providence Township, Luzerne Co., of that State, April 30, 1848, and is the second of five children born to Silas and Phoebe (Drake) Durand, a sketch of whom will be found elsewhere in this work [but she is called Nancy Drake in that sketch]. William lived at home until he was 26 years of age. At the age of 16 he was apprenticed to a brass molder and served about three years; he then came to Akron and took the position of laborer in the freight house of the N. Y., P. & O. R. R., and ahs been in the employ of the company ever since, save about eighteen months. By strict attention to business, he has been advanced through the different positions up the important one he now holds. During some ten years of his time with this company, he had charge of the ticket department of the road at this station. In November, 1877, he accepted the position of bookkeeper for Barber & Grant, grain dealers, but returned to the employ of the railroad in the spring of 1879. He has held his present position upward of eleven years, save the time stated. Feb. 25, 1874, he was married to Miss Sarah Berg, a native of Akron, and daughter of Anton and Augusta (Capella) Berg. This is undoubtedly her cousin the Hon George Harvey Durand and his brother Lorenzo Thurston Durand. [But see Lorenzo's entry. It was he, not George, that ran and lost for Governor.]

Also, from Arlien's notes, p 1-:

"graduated from Delaware Ohio College"

But cf Durand Family, p 205:

"Honorable George Harvey Durand was educated at Genesee Wesleyan Seminary, Lima, N. Y."

I take Providence Twp, Luzerne Co, PA to be her birthplace by the following argument:

1. She was born in PA, from census data.
2. Arlien Sifleet has her b Scranton(?), PA. I take this to be the confusion between Providence, PA, Providence Twp, PA, and Scranton, PA (see birth text for an analysis of this confusion). In short, Providence Twp and Providence borough (derived from Providence Twp) are both now parts of modern Scranton. Lackawanna Co was derived from Luzerne Co.
3. Her parents were married in Providence, PA in 1842. But there was no Providence borough in 1842 so this had to be Providence Twp.
4. Her younger brother William Angelo was born in Providence Twp.
5. She is listed in the 1850 Providence Twp Census, when she was 5 years old.

The Crawford Co OH marriage license for Mary H Durand and John M Parrott comes with a note signed by her father:

S Durand." MARY was born at Providence Twp, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, USA, on 8 March 1845. This birthplace might be (cf 1850 Census) in Providence Township, Luzerne Co, PA (near Scranton), or possibly Providence, Lackawana Co (in? Scranton or very near it).

Arlien Sifleet has it ?Scranton, PA.

History of Luzerne etc, pp 48-9, resolves the difficulty here:

"Within the limits of the city of Scranton [this is 1880] are included the former boroughs of Hyde Park, Scranton and Providence ... The land now embraced by the boundaries of Scranton and Dunmore was formerly included in the township of Providence, now extinct."

Also:

"Upon the erection of Luzerne county, four years later [1776], it [Providence Twp] was included within its boundaries; but it was not organized as a township of said county until 1792, when it was separated from Pittston. As a township, Providence has lost its identity. In April, 1819, a portion was set off as a part of Blakeley; January 4th, 1829, the western portion was reannexed to Pittston township; March 14th, 1849, Providence borough was erected from its territory; Hyde Park borough, May 4th, 1852; Scranton borough, February 14th, 1856; Dunmore borough, April 10th, 1862; April 23d, 1866, Scranton city, which includes all of the boroughs named except the greater portion of Dunmore and what little of the original towhship had not been included in their limits."

So, by 23 Apr 1866, Providence Twp had essentially been divided up into boroughs of the city of Scranton and the borough of Dunmore. One of the boroughs of Scranton formed from Providence Twp was Providence borough, formed 14 Mar 1849.

Since the 1850 Census was taken in Providence Twp, Luzerne Co, the list above suggests that MARY HORTENSE was living then in the part of the township which had not been incorporated into Providence borough (which happened in 1849), the part that would eventually become, in just a few years, Hyde Park, Scranton, or Dunmore boroughs. If the former two, then the area would be part of modern Scranton. (I am not sure if Dunmore is still separate from the city of Scranton; it doesn't appear to be from the map)..^7,8,3,4,9,10 She was the daughter of SILAS DURAND [Du375] and NANCY DRAKE. She married Lt JOHN MITCHELL PARROTT [Og3594] at Crawford, Ohio, USA, on 22 December 1862. Durand Family gives Byron OH as marriage place. Marriage license comes with note from her father addressed Galion OH..^{11,12,13,14,15,16,6} She moved in 1867 at Metz, Steuben, Indiana, USA.² She moved in 1875 at Bryan, Williams, Ohio, USA.² MARY died on 3 January 1914 at Bryan, Williams, Ohio, USA, at age 68.^17,18 Her body was interred at Bryan, Williams, Ohio, USA, at Fountain Grove Cemetery.^19,17

     Charlotte "Lottie" Augusta Durand [Du960] See text for father. Charlotte was born at Summit, Ohio, USA, on 1 December 1874.^2,3,4 She was the daughter of William Angelo Durand [Du725]. She married Howard K Neiswanger.¹

     Edward Berg (J) Durand [Du961] Edward J, according to the History of Summit Co; Edward Berg, according to Durand Family. Edward was born at Akron, Summit, Ohio, USA, on 1 February 1879. But Summit Co History gives name Edward J.

The Beach manuscript adds the birth place "ACKRON. OHIO.", p 331.^2,3,4 He was the son of William Angelo Durand [Du725].

     Howard K Neiswanger Arlien's notes, p 7-: "m. Howard Neiswanger from Orville O."

NB Orrville is in Wayne Co, OH

From these two pieces of evidence, and the fact that the 1870 birthdate is "right", I leap to the conclusion that the LDS birth record for Howard K Neiswanger is our Howard. Howard was born at Wayne, Ohio, USA, on 1 July 1870.² He was the son of Levi Neiswanger and Lizzie A Snader. He married Charlotte "Lottie" Augusta Durand [Du960].¹ Howard died in February 1964 at New York, USA, at age 93.³

     BENJAMIN OGDEN [Og1044] From The Ogden Family, by W O Wheeler, p 262:

"BENJAMIN OGDEN (John, Nathaniel, Joseph, Joseph, John), b. New Brunswick, N. J., Feb. 29, 1784; d. Crestline, O., Jan. 21, 1867; m. July 7, 1804, MARGARET SERVISS, b. Ireland, Aug. 21, 1785; d. Crestline, O., Feb. 21, 1852; dau. of David Serviss and Massie Parr, who settled in Middlesex Co., N. J." [followed by a list of their children with dates and spouses]

Dale Parrott has this obituary for son David Ogden from the Crestline Advocate, 1 Sep 1898:

David Ogden was brought to Crawford County by his parents in the spring of 1828, they having removed from Knox County where the subject of this sketch was born in 1819, and located on land where afterward the town of Crestline was built. ..."

or, 1M <10, 3F <10, 3F 10-16, 1F 26-45. Apparently the census counter failed to enter BENJAMIN himself. Everything else fits: son David is <10, daughters Margaret, Jane, and HENRIETTA are 10-16, daughters Ann, Lydia, and Mary are <10, and wife MARGARET is 26-45. NB, HENRIETTA was born 1816 in Knox Co OH.

History of Crawford Co OH, p 494:

"... Still further east of Rutan [on Main Street] was the "palace" of Benjamin Ogden ..." BENJAMIN was born at New Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey, USA, on 29 February 1784.^2,8 He was the son of Pvt JOHN OGDEN [Og365] and PRUDENCE ROLFE. He married MARGARET SERVISS on 7 July 1804.^2,8 BENJAMIN was listed as the head of a family on the in 1820 Census at Knox, Ohio, USA.⁴ He moved in April 1828 at Crawford, Ohio, USA.^9,10 BENJAMIN was listed as the head of a family on the in 1850 Census at Crawford, Ohio, USA.⁵ BENJAMIN was listed as the head of a family on the in 1860 Census at Crawford, Ohio, USA.⁶ BENJAMIN died on 21 January 1867 at Crestline, Crawford, Ohio, USA, at age 82.^2,8

     Jane Ogden [Og2205] Ogden Family p 379: Their children are listed as Gideon B, Ogden, Hattie, and Lydia Finch. Jane was born on 23 March 1813.^2,1 She was the daughter of BENJAMIN OGDEN [Og1044] and MARGARET SERVISS. She married Orson Finch.^2,3 Jane died circa 1890.^2,3

     HENRIETTA OGDEN [Og2206] From John Mitchell Parrott's obituary:

"John Mitchell Parrott, son of Sylvester and Henrietta Parrott, ..."

Ogden Family p 379: "HENRIETTA OGDEN (Benjamin, John, Nathaniel, Joseph, Joseph, John) b. Dec. 7, 1816; d. 1858; m. circa 1835, SYLVESTER PARROTT; son of William Parrott and Betsy Hand, his wife." The children listed are Mitchell, David, Margaret, Mary, Elizabeth, Orson, and Henry Parrott.

1820 Knox Co OH Census shows BENJAMIN OGDEN, her father 3 daughters less than 10. This is consistent with what we know about HENRIETTA b 1816, Knox Co OH. HENRIETTA was born at New Jersey, USA, on 7 November 1816.^5,6,7,8,9 She was the daughter of BENJAMIN OGDEN [Og1044] and MARGARET SERVISS. She married SYLVESTER PARROTT at Richland, Ohio, USA, on 17 March 1836.^10,11,12,13 HENRIETTA died on 4 January 1859 at Alvarado, Steuben, Indiana, USA, at age 42.^14,7,15,16 Her body was interred at Alvarado, Steuben, Indiana, USA, at Alvarado Cemetery Row 10, St.9.^17,18

     THOMAS was born at Stockbury, Kent, England, circa 1795.¹ He married MARY (?). THOMAS died on 4 August 1863 at Berlinville Cem..

     William Sifleet Arlien Sifleet's notes: "William Sifleet oldest brother his wife Mary born in England lived at Kingston, Mich. both died there had one son Geo lived at Toledo Ohio died there, was 80 or more."

He and Mary are listed as pioneers of Tuscola Co MI (see evidence). William was born at Kent, England, in March 1829.^3,4,5 He was the son of THOMAS SIFLEET and MARY (?). He married Mary _ circa 1848.³ William Sifleet emigrated on 22 November 1853 from New York City, New York, New York, USA; NY passenger list, Wm, Mary, and Geo from Great Britain.⁶ He appeared on the census of 1870 at Vassar, Tuscola, Michigan, USA.⁷ William died on 19 July 1900 at Kingston, Tuscola, Michigan, USA, at age 71.^3,4

     THOMAS SIFLEET (SIFLETT) The derivation of the name Sifleet is from Old English ``Sigeflaed'' meaning `victory-beauty' (from ``The Origin of English Surnames'' by P. H. Reaney). ``Sige'' is `victory'.

I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved Wife Elizabeth Sifleet all of my Estate both real and personal ... But if any of my said estate shall remain undisposed of by my said wife at the time of her decease, I give devise and bequeath all of such residue and remainder of my said estate to my beloved Son William J Sifleet. But if my said son William J Sifleet, or his issue, him surviving should not survive me and any of my said estate shall remain undisposed of by my said wife, at the time of her decease then it is my will to and I do hereby give devise and bequeath all of such residue and remainder of my said estate to Thomas Emery Son of my said wife ... In testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day of in the year AD 1886 ..."

     John Sifleet Arlien's Sifleet notes, p 33-: "was in Civil War"

"John Sifleet came to America from Kent England during the War 1861 in the South came north lived in Cleveland & Norwalk Ohio also at Collins. dead buried in the cemetery at Collins Ohio."

His citizenship papers say:

"John Sifleet ... enlisted in and was honorably discharged from the US Army ..."

Also, p 15- of her notes:

"John - m. 1 - died
m. 2 - a southern woman whom family refused to recognized [sic]." He married Mary A. (?).³ John was born at Kent, England, circa 1844.^4,2,5,3 He was the son of THOMAS SIFLEET and MARY (?). John immigrated, in 1861. Destination: (an unknown value).⁴ He married Eliza _.⁶ He petitioned the court to become a citizen at Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, on 19 August 1869.² John Sifleet appeared on the census of 1870 at Coe Ridge, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA.⁷ He appeared on the census of 1880 at Collins, Huron, Ohio, USA; John 36, Eliza 48, 2 stepsons.⁸ His body was interred at Collins, Huron, Ohio, USA, at Collins Cemetery.⁴

Edith and Libby appear to be different children, from notes above. I don't know what to make of Birdie and Camarius. They don't match the other one child mentioned elsewhere, Netta. Camarius, in fact, appears to be a son of Eliza Sifleet instead.

This seems too much a coincidence with the children attributed here by Aunt Arlien to Sarah Jane Sifleet and Thomas Sherwood. Note that she has Sarah Jane b Kent d Norwalk OH, and the children Edith, Netta, and Libbie all living or dying in Norwalk or Townsend OH. Furthermore note that Sarah Jane has a sister Mary Ann according to Aunt Arlien.

See also the notes with Mary Ann Sifleet. Perhaps Arlien had these two sisters reversed. I am going to assume that she does at this point and swap the two names. I am also going to assume Arlien got Thomas Sherwood wrong - that he should be John Sherwood. Believe it or not, this is consistent with at least one reading of Arlien's ambiguous notes. So Mary Ann's notes are now under Sarah Jane and vice versa. I'm sure that's confusing. Mary was born at Bobbing, Milton, Kent, England, on 30 July 1840.² She was the daughter of THOMAS SIFLEET and MARY (?). She married John W Sherwood at Huron, Ohio, USA, on 25 December 1858.^2,3 Mary died on 12 October 1898 at age 58.² Her body was interred at Norwalk, Huron, Ohio, USA.²
